Nice low light capability but no XLR, no articulated screen, and no fully automatic video mode means I'm still waiting for something else...

Can't wait to see some ultra low light cat footage. In the meantime I'll settle for this: http://web.canon.jp/imaging/eosd/samples/eos1dm4/player_bluemoon/movie.html?high

Great video features but in a $5000 pro model...so not really economical compared to a prosumer video camera + 35mm adapter (probably about the same price...HMC-150 + Letus Extreme, etc)....hmmmm. Part of me wishes canon hadn't included video features because they may well start inflating the price across the market for these cameras...take a page out of Nikon's book and keep your pro line for photographers...it's probably an unfounded fear given it's pro roots but still...I feel like this will either be an excuse to keep the good tech out of the lower end cameras in the next generation or to inflate the prices...but again, just being paranoid.

1080p output via HDMI in rec mode? That would be a 'real' pro feature...

Pretty exciting stuff, the crop is obviously for the longer reach for sports/wildlife/etc photography.

Makes no sense. Nikon's new D3s also shoots HD video. This is the direction of the technology as a whole. Don't be so narrow minded and only be concerned within a specific price range.

When it comes to DSLRs the difference separating the top pro line and prosumer line has never been image quality. It has always been ergonomics, durability, and speed.

'Scratlet'? Ain't going to compete against the HD-SLR onslaught unless it's something very special indeed. I like RED's philosophy but this time they've over-promised and under delivered, and people are getting bored of waiting. Releasing some CAD drawings on the day the 7D was launched is not exactly what people want.

Keep expectations in check and over deliver. That's the better strategy and it's kinda what Canon did with the 5D.

"Not a single external light source was used / added. In other words I did not use a single flashlight, LightPanel, flood light - nothing. For one shot only I pulled out a silver reflector… just to say we did it really. And yes it worked (see the shot of the young girl.)

The ISO stayed locked in the 6400 ASA range - with a very few shots hovering 1 stop above and one or two set to 3200 ASA because we had TOO MUCH depth of field…(on the bridge.) At one point I found myself shooting at 12,800 ASA by mistake - and I didn’t even notice any noise on the rear LCD in the skies… 6400 ASA is the new 1600 ASA - maybe even the new 800 ASA. Stop to ponder that for a second - and what it can mean to the way you approach your craft. " Laforet

He also mentions in the comments that the Skew (rolling shutter) is much more manageable than any of the other SLR's.

Will this Canon AF in video mode? I think the new Nikon does, but it is not 1080.

The supposed Canon pro HD video camera with the "good tech" is probably going to be an XL-style build that will be priced at approx. $7,000-8,000.

This has been rumored since before the 5D mkII, so I'm not surprised they'd put video in a $5,000 DSLR.

I bet it's a lot more expensive than that! If it ever happens.
