Decided to use my 7D on a short film for an inter-office Halloween film competition. We had a 3-day turn around by the time we started shooting to the time the film was due.

Had a couple of shots where the focusing wasn't quite right, my fault of course as I was only using the 7D LCD. Other than that, I was very happy with the picture I got from the camera.

great film man. The little girl was perfect for the role.
The pacing was great, and i liked the use of crossing the axis.

Grading gave a really nice feeling for the piece, and the opening few shots were very cinematic.

Did you have any problems with your widest lens not being quite wide enough? Some of the shots felt like you couldn't quite get the entire frame you wanted, and were overly cropped.

thanks for sharing!

Papa, thanks for the comments! Interesting you say that because yes, that was the case in some of the shots. I used a 35mm lens the entire time which makes it a about 55mm so I had a challenge when I wanted a wide shots. I just need to get something wider.

Awesome man!
Hope you win... and if you don't, there must be some badass filmmaking dentists where you work :)

LOL thanks Johnny! I actually work in the marketing department for a dental office management software company...not the most exciting field...but being in the more creative side of things, we at least get to do fun things once in a while.

=] Very intelligent assessment on composition, Papa. I didn't read your post but I noticed the same thing. Not that it was bad at all, but that the frame wanted to go wider and just couldn't?

Grading, I agree-- from what I could see-- looked pretty nice, man. Overall pretty decent visuals. Color and saturation were right on the money for me.

pretty cool, man.... You should have entered it in monsterfest :)

one thing I would say is that I kept wanting to tilt the camera up a bit in a lot of the shots... Like you were borderline cutting off their eyes and such with the crop.

lataer,
Jason

You are right...I should have offset the crop a bit in several shots. I actually thought about entering it in the monster fest but our marketing team was so eager to get the official site up that I knew it would violate one of the contest rules.

site is no problem... but showing the film as you have is, unfortunately :)

anyways. nice work for a 3 day endeavor... girl was good. nice, compact story that worked well as a short film (or even a prologue to a feature). won't tear apart the acting or anything like that....

Might have just been on my end, but the score seemed to overpower a lot of teh dialog. I had a hard time hearing them at times.

Anyways. Thanks for sharing.

Jason

This was fantastic, I really enjoyed it. I am not sure if it's just me but i felt like the audio for the dialog was kind of low, probably just me though. Great work, hope you win too.
