Much like the D.C. thread I posted the other day (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=186568) - I just got back from a job in L.A. where I took nothing but the 7D with me - two days of shooting (interviews/broll).
Put together a quick montage of Broll for those who might be interested in seeing some footage.
Shot with the Sigman 30mm f1.4 and (thanks to Stephen Mick) the Canon 70-200mm f2.8 - which is a really nice lens to have.
Color corrected quickly in FCP.

Thanks, Tony - the sun did most of the work that evening.
All I did was point the 7D in the right direction.

Yeah - it's a great lens, and the image stabilization on it is killer (nevermind the constant 2.8, which is nice).
Unfortunately everything you saw there was on sticks for the most part - because of the needs of the gig I was on - but honestly I think you could easily shoot at 70mm with the IS on, and possibly even all the way to 200mm if your hands are steady enough. It's going to float around a bit, but nothing as jerky as it would be otherwise.
That, and it's sharp as a tack - if Stephen didn't already own it, I'd think about picking one up myself.

Really good work! Anyone know how to get rid of that strobe when shooting things like the don't walk sign? I was shooting a cab meter the other day and I had the same thing.

You and your 7D are turning into world travelers.

I would assume that the proper shutter speed would help - I was shooting in a big hurry (our first day got rained out for the most part) so I didn't mess with that too much.

Heh - yeah, that's exactly why I wanted to give these new DSLR's a chance, most of my shooting lately has been out of town.
Traveling with a 7D and a lightweight tripod is MUCH easier than running around with an HPX170/Letus and heavier weight tripod.
I'm really loving this new lighter weight setup - though I'm starting to realize if you want to keep light you have to pick your lenses carefully -
otherwise it's really easy to wind up with just as much gear, because what you lose in camera bulk you double up on in lenses.
I have a couple of shoots coming up that wouldn't require the shallower DOF that the 7D allows* - so I'm still on the fence as to whether or not I'll go back to the 170 or stick with this.
It may not be the right tool for every shoot - but it's definitely a great tool to have in the shed.
*I should clarify - when I say 'require' I mean required by the client.
Obviously this could have easily been shot with an HPX,
but the client had specific requests when it came to the look of the interviews/broll
that made the 7D the better choice in this specific instance.

Stunning work man!
Your videos have been very inspiring, I'm growing more confident shooting wide and deep with this camera because of your clips.
Is the 70-200mm you used IS on non-IS?

It is an IS lens. I know because it's mine. :D
It's an older model, but it is a sweet lens. I highly recommend it.

You can have it back after he sends it to me for, uh, some evaluation, yeah that's it!
