View Full Version : A Walk in the Park
My first real test getting to know my new 7D. This was shot in the park at magic hour, so I didn't have a lot of time. I learned a lot and can't wait to get out and shoot again.
Shot with Canon 7D in 1080-24P with 1/50 shutter. ISO ranged from 100 - 640
Lenses: Canon 50mm f1/8 & Tamron 17-200mm f/3.5-f/6.3
I used a Hoodloupe to pull focus while viewing the 7D LCD.
Cut & Graded in Final Cut. Music: Folk Song - The Sundays.
NOTE: The last 30 secs are just black. Mistake on my part.

Nice work, Boz
Thanks for taking the time to put this together and posting it -
So how do you like the hoodloupe for pulling focus?
I just got back from a few shoots with the 7D - and I'm realizing there is no way I can keep shooting with just the bare LCD.
great vid!
yeah, ditto about the focus. Need to find an affordable, quality monitor for critical focus and as best color/contrast replication as possible for a decent price tag.
Actually, for the price, the Hoodloupe isn't bad. I'm sure the Z-finder is way nicer, but I just can't justify the cost. I'm using a ghetto rubber band method to secure the loupe to the camera body, so it's not the most secure at the moment, but it gets the job done. Pulling focus is still tricky, but I find with a little practice it's doable. Eventually I'd like to get something like a 6" monitor for focus, but I have a limited budget. so that will have to wait! Lenses first. :)
have you taken a look at monitors yet? If so what have you found that seems interesting?
I haven't really looked at any monitors in depth. No point until I get closer to purchase time. Right now a new lens is in my sights.... still trying to decide between the Sigma 30mm f/14 or the Tamron 17-50mm f/2.8
