Hi folks,

I am seriously considering purchasing the HMC150 for our new graduate program in documentary filmmaking. I am curious as to what kind of deck or output format people are using. In our current program, the student thesis films generally run at film festivals, where they have to provide some kind of analog or digital format. We've had a few of the films air on PBS and Sundance channel, so it covers a broad spectrum.

Do you recommend outputting to DVD? Thanks for your help.

There is no right or wrong answer to this - because it really depends what the target audience needs. Some may need DVD, others Blu-ray (for HD), others DigiBeta etc.

DVD and Blu-ray are probably the easiest to create and DVD is certainly the most universal (for SD at least!). However, if it's for a TV station they may not be able to accept DVD at all. You need to ask the the target venue what they need. What have you been providing so far?

The HMC150 is no different to any other camera in terms of how you deliver the final product.
