Just picked one of these up used at a good price and I'm loving it.
I think its sort of the perfect focal length for the 7D (with the crop its about a 44mm)
I didnt even realized it existed and thought that if i wanted something wider i'd be forced to go with the uber expensive l series 24 1.4, but lo and behold i have a good multipurpose sharp wide at under 500 bucks.
Could you upload some footage please?

so far its been just stills and a few video experiments that i deleted from the cards
but i really like everything about the lens.

Are you talking about the Canon EF 28mm 1.8 USM? That's the one I bought...if Amazon would ever ship me my 7D, I could try it out. All this talk about the Sigma 30mm has left me wondering if I made the right decision about a "normal" to go with my EF 50mm 1.4 USM.

This lens looks good. Would love to see the results you achieve once you get your 7D. I'm trying to decide between this and the Sigma 30mm f1.4.

i dont think theres any contest between the canon and the sigma.
there are very few good reviews of the sigma out. all in all, its cheaper, crappier glass from what i can tell

I completely disagree. As do the reviews of the lens on Fred Miranda's site, where the Canon has a 8.3 rating and the Sigma has an 8.9 rating.
I've used them both, and would recommend the Sigma hands down.

Well, the fact that both my Canon primes take 58mm and I can get away with one FaderND and share other filters and the USM "always available manual focus" that lets you manually focus when the lens is switched into AF were big points in favor of the EF 28mm 1.8 USM for me. Optically they are probably pretty close...resale I suspect the Canon edges the Sigma out by a hair.

Just to be clear, the canon 28 f1.8 is an EF lens, not an EFS lens, meaning it can be used on full frame sensors. I bought one of these and am extremely happy with my results. I already posted this elsewhere on the forum, but this video was shot entirely with this lens:

Personally, I went with the Sigma 30mm and told myself I'd rather have the slightly faster aperture and slightly closer conversion to 50mm. (48 vs 45) but if the 28mm had been available, I might've gone for that since it's a canon brand lens (i like camera brand lenses) I also got the 50mm 1.4 too just so I can have a 80mm equivalent. Everything is arriving in a couple of days so we'll see if I like/dislike the 30mm enough to go to the 28mm. It's too bad that a real 50mm equivalent can only be gotten with something really weird like 31.25mm! I guess if you use your zoom lens you can get there, but no faster than 2.8.

The sigma does not come close to the Canon glass. That's why i put it lower case s.

You are, of course, entitled to your opinion. That does not make it fact.
From the-digital-picture.com…
"If (unfortunately, that is a big if) the Canon EF 28mm f/1.8 USM Lens' image quality is good enough for you at f/1.8, this lens will make a good low-light handholdable lens."
(And about the Sigma)
"…a relatively low price point, fast HSM autofocusing, small size and good build quality to the fast aperture puts the 30 f/1.4 in its own class"
The best way to evaluate any lens is to find a dealer nearby that has them in stock and test them out. Making lens decisions based on internet opinion (including mine) is asking for buyer's remorse.

I'm just picking at you from the previous thread, I have the Sigma and love it.
