How good are the Zeiss lenses? I only use fast Nikon lenses for my cameras but I am truly interested in finding out if these lenses are worth the price. I am always willing to upgrade if the image quality is superb.

I've seen a Zeiss Planar T* 1.4/85 ZE 85mm f/1.4 for about $1400 and a Carl Zeiss Planar T* 1.4/50 ZE 50mm f/1.4 for another $1200. These are made for Canon so I guess there is no need for an adapter. Are there any other lenses recommended for putting together a lens kit?

They are really sharp and have very good colour consistency between the focal lengths. Bokeh very pretty.

Duclos Lenses sell a cine modded version of the Zeiss ZF series. Focus gears permanently attached and aperture de-clicked for smooth exposure changes. You'd need a Nikon adapter for them.

Worth noting is that this is the same glass that Zeiss use in their compact primes for cine cameras.

In between the two above in price are the P+S Technik - same glass again, Nikon mounts cine housed.

Hey Martti...thanks for the info.

Seems like the Ducloslenses are the most affordable ones. DO you know if they have a Canon adapter. Would prefer not to do the Zeiss to Nikon to Canon adapter thingy.

L Series Primes are a least equal in quality.... and they work perfectly. I dont think you will find much of an improvement over Lseries with the Zeiss ZF's..

Who is a dealer for the Zeiss L Series? How are they in price?

Also are these better than Nikon or Canon primes?

The L series are Canon's top notch lenses, not Zeiss. And yes - they are as good or even better and are often at least one step faster. Here in Sweden they are more costly - a Zeiss Distagon T 35 mm f/2.0 would set me back SEK 8.665:- and a Canon EF 35 mm f/1.4 L USM SEK 14 277:- but pricing of photo gear is very region dependent so compare where you live.

interesting...always been a Nikon guy so Canon lenses are a mystery to me.

Though i would love to take a pepsi challenge on the New Zeiss for EF lenses Vs. L series.

My money says you can barely tell the difference, except that the L's are 1/2 stop faster.
