http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/498658-REG/Tokina_ATX165PRODXN_16_50mm_f_2_8_AT_X_165.html anybody tried this lens? seems to be a better start for me, on a budget, than the 17-55 cannon.

thoughts?

Well, there is a $400 price different there. So if money matters, the choice is somewhat obvious.

Image stabilization, however, may be an important factor. Unless you really lock it down or are very skilled with the handheld shooting, you could may get some unusable footage due to the shake.

so most guys are shooting WITH IS when it's available? what about these guys shooting the primes with no bells and whistles? are they not shooting hand held generally?

thx

I just got this lens

Great range

Soldi build

Nice big place to focus or put a FF

Focus ring does not move if you zoom (good for putting on a FF)

A little floppy when extended to 50mm

Considering I may go back to FF or move to Nikon in the next six months I didnt want to go to deep costwise into this focal length

IMO this is the best option for zoom/speed/solidy/price

I have not however done any footage on it yet - but it looks OK on the screen
