Hi, a couple of questions regarding the kit lens
1) What do you guys think about the overall quality of the Kit lens? For $200 more, it's pretty inexpensive
2) Does the kit lens have Image Stabilization? I plan on shooting a fair amount of monopod / gorilla pod type stuff. Will I need I.S. when shooting with some sort of basic support?
3) The GH1 has a terrific kit lens with a wider focal length option (14mm vs 28mm). Can you guys recommend a comparable lens for the 7D (especially a bit wider), that moderately priced?
Thanks for any info

Depends on the kit lens -- there are two, the 28-135 and the 18-135. I got the 18-135, it added $300 to the kit price but it also includes a spare battery, a lens hood, and a UV filter. It has image stabilization. That extra 10mm wide angle really makes a difference. The 28-135 is USM and the 18-135 isn't, but I'd still rather have the range of the 18-135.

There is also the 15-85mm IS kit lens now. That's the one I'd go for if I were you. It's wider but quite zoomy too.

The GH1's kit lens doesn't actually look any wider than 28mm on the 5D or 18mm on the 7D because it has a smaller sensor. Do a search for lens crop factor and you'll find more details on this.

Isn't that like $800 though?
I didn't know the kit had all that in it. Not a bad deal. Be sure to report on that 18-135 Barry

My kit came with the 18-135mm. I traded it back to the camera shop and put the money towards a couple of L lenses.
It's not a bad lens.. just a little slow.

A battery alone is about $70. So Barry's choice is a good deal.
