Here is a montage of stuff i shot today with a friend of mine. Basically, it is our travel to class, located in downtown Montreal. Upon arriving, we decided to hit up a shisha lounge just across the street from Concordia University. Simon, my friend, had previously never done shisha before so we figured it would be something fun to do, it also helped kill the hour wait after the long train ride.
I wanted to do a decently hard test for the 7D. I wanted high contrast images, low light, very shaky hand held and no color correction to see what video from the 7D in difficult settings would reveal.
Most of the indoor stuff was shot at 1600 ISO, due to the slow lens I'm using that came with my old Canon Rebel XT. It's an 18-55mm 3.5-5.6. So anytime we are at the long end of the lens, we're working with F5.6. Thus low light became an issue. But even then, we still got some reasonable looking stuff of the two of us. had i been using a nikon 50mm F1.4 @ F2, i could have easily saved on 3 stops, bringing that ISO all the way down to 320 ( mathematically it would be 200 ) but the factors of 160 have been shown to yield the cleanest results. Remember, this place has EXTREMELY low levels of light. It was pretty dark just sitting in there.
One thing this test really solidified for me, was that i will NEVER, EVER shoot anything serious without some sort of stabilization. Be it a tripod, mono-pod, or simply a shoulder rig. This thing suffers on the long lens end of the image from even the smallest shakes from the operators hands. Some might be better than others, but for me, this cam will require some stabilization.
Absolutely adore this camera though. Also, threw in a train shot at the beginning since i knew that all trains passing by provide skew, lol, so naturally, had to prove it to myself that my camera wasn't special. haha
No color correction was applied.
Enjoy the ride! *** one or two S%$* words in there.
Boy are we silly...
