WOW. My company was considering purchasing about 5 x 7D's, but I just saw this clip. Now I am confused, I thought I had seen everything but that clip is AMAZINGLY GOOD.

I can't see why not?

In the right hands, absolutely. The only thing the Mark II really offers over the 7D (especially in this video) is a shallower depth of field. It's also more light sensitive, but a similar look could be achieved with the 7D, I think.

The camera is a brush, we are the artists.

This video was discussed back in June: http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=174434

Not everyone is a fan of the super-shallow DOF look or this video... Just choose the tool that can give you the results that you want.

Wonder how I managed to miss this video. Inspiring stuff, makes me wish my camera was already here...

The casting and Colorist's work on these videos is exceptional - check out the rest of her vimeo page videos when you get a chance/

I wish more people realized this. Myself included at times...

Be that as it may be, the depth of field, and quality of her shots minus color correction are incredible. I have yet to see anything this good looking shot on the 7D (I know it's only been out for what? A week or two?). I know the advantages of the frame rate in the 7D, and other features, but now I am skeptical.

I'm going to sit and wait until one of our awesome fellow DVXusers post a pro-quality video. I'll be looking all over google video as well, hopefully something will turn up.

Have you seen anything else like that shot on the 5D? You are still crediting the camera for the entire piece :) I love the FF of the 5D as well, especially for these art pieces/commercials, but that doesn't mean another camera isn't as capable of producing quality images

Check out her Flickr for before and after grabs, ungraded vs. graded. http://www.flickr.com/photos/camillemarotte/3875657470/

The magic of that piece isn't just the camera...far from it. Color grading, music, editing, casting, treatment ... all of these things already mentioned ... are why it works.

From what I gather, the only significant differences between the 7D image and the 5D image are DOF and one F-stop of sensitivity. Otherwise, they look pretty much the same. There are other subtle differences, but those two are the only obvious ones. You can compensate for the others pretty well in post.

If the DOF capabilities of the 5D are what you want, then that's what you (or your company) should get. Simple as that. If you have any other doubts, then try to see if you can get your hands on both a 5D and a 7D and spend a day doing test shooting. Remember that one camera isn't magically going to give you dramatically better images than the other. It depends on how you use it. And test shooting will reveal the out-of-the-box (more or less) differences.

....

Yes, half-starved, undead, self-centered, insecure, hung-over, burnt-out but otherwise attractive youngsters will look almost exactly like this if shot using a 7D!

Camera is only part of the equation...

But, I will say that I'm sorry the members o'this board (most) have YET to see any full-on Narrative footage shot with the 7D. =) I can tell you, it's quite... quite nice when even the slightest effort to pump out some Story in front of the sensor and nice glass is applied.

Soon enough, though!

that last image looks like something out of Fallout 3 - which in turn has me extra excited to see what it is in live action
