Hi everyone,
I am using an HPX-502 (NZ equivalent) for an 8 minute short film. We are hoping of shooting in DVCPRO 100 and have a 5:1 shoot ratio.
My question is how many terrabytes will I safely need to edit a project of this scope?
Cheers

DVCPRO 100, or DVCPRO HD, has many shooting formats. 1080i29.97? 1080p30 1080pA 23.98? 720p59.94? 720p30? 720p 24PN? Unless we know that, we can't accurately say.
720P 24PN at 23.98 takes up 22GB/hour. Whereas 720p60 takes 53GB/hour. 1080i29.97 takes up 60GB/hour.
You will need one set of drives to archive the card offloads...and yes, you want to archive the FULL cards onto one set, then edit on another.

Okay, an eight minute film at a 5:1 ratio means you're shooting 40 minutes of source footage.
In the worst case scenario, 40 minutes = 40 GB.
So even if you factor in two drives for redundancy, you're still talking about only 80 GB of total storage necessary. So don't worry about terabytes, get a couple of 120gb drives and you'll have space galore.
