So I have a Zoom H4, sans n, unfortunately. I want to mount it on top of my soon to be acquired 7D. I know about this thanks to Zak - http://www.filmtools.com/nemiisarmw1h.html

Are there other ways to mount then the above? I'd rather not spend 180 bucks. Also on the bottom of my H4 there is one hole there to screw something in, how exactly do you mount it? I assume this area is the same as the H4n.

Also, how about other handheld stabilization options, besides Zacuto or Redrock rails... any solid alternatives? Even a simple one with a trigger handle, etc.

Hope others will find such a discussion useful.

Thanks.

I got the indierails DSLRM kit for support, and it's halfway decent for the price $400

I asked this in the GH1 rig thread but didn't receive any replies, has anyone tried the indiRAILSpro MP? While I'm skeptical of the quality of the built-in follow focus, for $400 it seems like a decent hand-held solution. The product description suggests it's targeted at "live event shooters," but it looks pretty well suited to HH narrative work as well.

Yup, that totevision one is all you need.

The Tote Vision would be the simplest and cheapest fix. For some reason, I think it would be cool to modify something from these pages (http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/search?Ntt=flash+bracket&N=0&InitialSearch=yes).

hi chance,

if not interested in FF then i offer this as an option...
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=m1blA8xC4Ts

i use it for my 5DmkII, EX1 & HMC150. when i use my 5D on it i dont hold the handles as much. i usually have both of my hands on the camera body itself so i can focus with my left hand and do start/stop/exposure...etc with my right. as long as you have the "flexpod" attatched its very easy to hold solid and for long periods of time. no strain on your arm or hands whatsoever. it also folds down incredibly compact.

Thanks for all of the responses! I'm leaning towards the indifocus. If I were to pick up the DSLRsm would the indifocus follow focus be my only option?

How about cheap external monitor solutions?

Thanks again, and Imma let you all finish, but DVXuser is the greatest online filmmaking community of all time! Of all time!

Sorry if I try too hard sometimes.

the MultiRig is not IMO meant to be walked with while the flexpod is attached. its not horrible but still not appealing to me. if you take the flexpod off (which i rarely do) then walking is much like an over the shoulder camera.

this is not a replacement for a steadicam even even though some of the vdieos treat it like it is.

the strong point of the Multirig is the support and ease of use if your going to be in a static position most of the time plus your hands are loose and available to work the camera without need to "hold the camera".

also, this isnt necessarily a direct replacement for a rail system since many people want FF but, in a general sense i would much rather use this than a rail system until i decided that i want to have FF. if that day comes then i will retro fit the flexpod under whatever rail system i buy.

So I've actually decided to get the indiSQUARE with rods for 130 bucks.

I decided on this because if I am not shooting on a tripod, I like the freedom to put the camera wherever I want and take advantage of the light weight and small size of the 7D. The shoulder mount type systems seem best for those who are shooting ENG type stuff. Seems like it would be restricting to me.

Thanks for all input.

did you get your indie square; also thinking of getting it wondering how you like it?...

I'm very happy with the square. It's very sturdy, and very smooth as far as stabilization. I got the option with rails and will be adding an FF and mattebox this week... and a slider. It feels great to me, it's still quite light weight. You definitely need shoulder support though if you're shooting events or hand held for extended periods of time. However for short form, interviews, narrative, I think it's going to do very well and help me get interesting angles, etc.

And again regarding Tim, just awesome service. Incredibly helpful and patient with all my questions. Can't recommend them enough.

i sent tim an email and haven't heard from him in a few days so i thought i would ask you...
can you attach the indisquare to a tripod by chance... that would be ideal to go from tripod to handheld with a quick release plate...
thanks
