View Full Version : Live Type movies are pixelated after rendering

I'm having a rendering issue on FCP version 6.0.6. I'm dropping in a live type movie file into a FCP timeline. When I view the live type movie in FCP's Viewer the lettering is sharp and correct. Then I look at the Live type movie in FCP's Canvas and it still looks sharp BEFORE rendering. AFTER I render the letters look pixelated.

The original settings in the RT tab are
RT SAFE
SCRUB HIGH QUALITY
PLAYBACK VIDEO QUALITY: DYNAMIC
PLAYBACK FRAME RATE: FULL
MULTICLIP PLAYBACK
RECORD TO TAPE: FULL QUALITY

I tried changing the RT SETTINGS then drop in the live type movie again and render the file but nothing seems to make a difference. I also checked the SEQUENCE SETTINGS and it looks like nothing is out of the ordinary.

What can I do to fix this issue?

There might not be one. When you render, you are making that LT movie the same codec as you r sequence, which may make it appear to look janky. Janky is in fact a technical term ;)

If you're going out to broadcast/DVD - check it on a NTSC monitor or burn a quick test DVD.
If you're going out to the web - make it and have a look to see if it still looks janky.

What codec and settings is the LT movie?

What are your sequence settings?

The PROJECT PROPERTIES in live type are set to:

Presents: Custom
Width 855px
10.69 inches at 80.0 dpi
Height 486 px
6.57 inches at 72.0 dpi
Frame Rate 29.97 fps

The SEQUENCE SETTINGS in FCP are:
Frame Size: 720 x 480 Aspect Ratio NTSC DV (3:2)
Pixel Aspect Ratio NTSC-CCIR 601/ DV 720x480

I have other LT movies with the same settings and this is the first time I have seen this problem. I also noticed something different about the title that I didn't see before.
After the LT movie is rendered in FCP only a certain set of text seems to be Pixelated ("jankey"). When I look at the project in LIVETYPE the only difference between the "pixelated" text and the other text is just the color and placement. All the other settings for the text is the same. How come only a certain set of text is pixelated and not the rest?
