So, I indulged my inner Geek and recreated a short scene from Blade Runner. It's always been one of my favorite scenes for lighting.
Enjoy!

Wow!! My eyes are popping out of my head. Just a noob lighting request: would you be able to run me through your setup? Again, fantastic.

A 575w HMI is hitting the actors in the back of the head. For the underlighting, I used a lightbox for viewing slides and gelled it with party blue. You can see it in the wide shot. And a 500w fresnel with the same blue gel hitting them in the face (motivated by the TV and blue neon). I just watched the scene from the real movie and deduced where the lights were. When you own the Blu-Ray, you can look right into the actors' eyes and see reflections of the lighting instruments that were used. Then I smoked up the set with a hazer and lit incense for the cigarette smoke in the foreground.

 Thanks man!
I have next to no real lighting experience and hence soak up every bit of info I can get (retention is another thing entirely). I appreciate you spending the time!

Excellent work. Looks like it was fun too. What was the actual room/set like, where did you shoot this?

A very brave attempt and you pulled it off! You really nailed the look and give clear proof that GH1 will work just fine for lighted narrative work. A perfect clip to point to when somebody says that GH1 sucks and is crippled beyond use. Top job and a tip of my hat sir!
I love how you even simulated gate-weave on the titles. Only mistake is that you should have stopped shaving a whole week before the gig. :Drogar-Smoke(DBG):

Yes, I should have stopped shaving for a week, and I should have gained about 50 pounds and shaved my hairline back.
I work at a local TV station and I shot it in our smaller studio, which is still decent sized. Note to self: fog machines don't work very well in rooms with 20-foot ceilings. I should have shot it some place much smaller. You'll notice the amount of smoke keeps changing in the background. I had to add a little in After Effects.

I made this last year, but I don't think I ever linked it to DVXUser. It's one of my favorite lit scenes from "Blade Runner". I recreated it as best as I could using Nikon primes, a few lights, a smoke machine and some incense for the cigarette smoke.
This is obviously pre-firmware hack, but I still think it gives the 5D a run for it's money.

I caught this a while back, don't remember if it was on DVXuser or somewhere else. Looks amazing, just goes to show there's no substitute for great lighting and composition. Very, very nicely done.

Wow, I remembered posting it months ago, but yesterday I did a search for "Blade Runner" and didn't find the thread. Oh well, a little redundancy never hurt anybody. :-)

Now I want to see your short you posted a trailer of.

Now I want to see your short you posted a trailer of.
So do I!
Actually, it's finished but awaiting a final music score. When you work two jobs it takes a long time to finish personal projects. :-)
And when your composer/friend is a also a freelance videographer/computer guru, you have to allow them to take paying jobs as opposed to devoting their full time to my little project.
So the movie should be done soon. When it is, I will post a link to it.

Doh! Why didn't I think of that? Search Engine Methodology Error.

Glad it got bumped. Good stuff.

Mr. Stanley,
Thanks for the merge! BTW, "Shady Texas" looks great. Why isn't the GH1 getting more notoriety? All this stuff looks amazing!
