I have an older mac g5 now which has served me very well over the years using the DVX, now having received my GH1 today I'm starting to panic a little because I'm overwhelmed trying to get this mts files into something I can watch, let alone edit in FCP Studio 2. I gather neo scene is the ideal program for converting the files but there's no download for non-intel macs...

Am I going to need a whole new computer too now?

HELP!

Final Cut Studio 2 should handle it fine and should run decently on most G5s...although not as good as on newer hardware...are there specific problems you're having?

Haha, yea I don't know what program to use to conform the files to workable files for Quicktime/FCP... that's a relief it can be done, just need a little direction... thanks man

For anyone else having this problem I'm using toast9 to convert to ProRes422 HQ files and that seems to be doing the trick... if there's a better way someone knows please let me know...

The answer is using the Log and Transfer feature of Final Cut Pro to transcode to Pro Res. You will have to remove pulldown for your 1080p footage using a method in the above stickies.

You will need to have the card folder data intact (the entire Private folder) not just individual .mts files.

I get an error message saying it doesn't support the ACVHD format when I tried that...

You're using Final Cut Studio 2 (FCP 6?) and doing this on the Private folder? Is your FCP up to date...I don't know that AVCHD was supported in the version that shipped, run software update.

AFAIK log and transfer of AVCHD does not work on PPC. You are doing it the only way with Toast 9.

This is correct. I tried the same thing with my PPCG5 - got the same message from log and transfer.

Transcoding AVCHD using the L/T in FCP requires an Intel Mac

OP has a G5.

Toast works well.

So does VoltaicHD and VideoPierHD.
