Hey,
I currently on a few camera options - EX1+Letus Extreme, DVX100A, Nikon D90.
All have had good usage.
I'm starting a side project where I film loads of weird small films with bands, they play a song walking around, mic'd to a wireless g2, they talk a bit, there's loads of B-roll stuff, all a bit weird and dreamlike.
I was planning on using the EX1+Letus combo as I've done in the past and, looking at the 7D, am wondering if it might be a better option if I get one or two accessories e.g. the Zacuto kit looks decent.
I was wondering if anyone had any opinions on this - the EX1+Letus combo, handheld, is heavy and unweildy, but produces great images and is easy to use. It also can take all the wireless transmitteres etc into it's XLR jacks. It's also easy to edit. It is also, crucially, manual w/the Letus.
The D90 I have I also use and it's great in many ways, although the quality isn't up to it for this project and the jello cam doesn't hold up to my handheld shots.
In the above I said I'd probably consider getting some stabilistion/brace thing for the 7D if I did get one. Jello cam would be a concern, but the images look pretty sweet. I would have to buy an audio recorder to plug everything in, but I'd sell my D90 and DVX so would probably end up being able to cover it all.
A lot of what I'm talking about doing is filming guerilla in random places so a low imprint sounds useful too.
It will be aimed for web usage, but I do know that the EX1 is BBC Gold for TV, which is an advantage, the 5D isn't (although I doubt TV people will be able to tell).
Any thoughts would be welcome!
Cheers,
Andy
