I spent a few hours putting together a short film to show the HMC40's ability to perform in low light. I used one floor lamp with two 60watt bulbs and candle light. The images where treated with a luma curve in premiere to increase the shadows, otherwise, no other changes where made.

What was the gain setting you used?

Thanks.

What were you shooting in 1080/60i? Did you make any scene file adjustments? Where is your max gain set -- 12dB, 24dB or 34dB (high gain)?

Were you in manual or auto?

If you were in manual -- What was the shutter speed? Iris (gain)?

How does the footage look straight out of the camera (i.e., without the luma curve)?

All auto settings.

Sorry for no specifying before. I've been playing with the gain today. I hope to post more videos this week while I still learn the camera. So far, with indoor lighting or windows I've found that gain around 10db mirrors what your eye sees for light while it does have much noise.

What I've noticed is that the camera is mediocre in low light (no surprises, it's what most people except from a cmos cam). It's not horrible though, I have a cam that's horrible in low light :)

I hope to have some more time this week to post a few more videos showing different gain/iris settings.

-----------------------------

As for the footage, I shot it in 720p/60fps (because it was going to the internet) and the footage looks brighter without the luma curve.

----------------------------

I am uploading a raw MTS to my webserver space right now of the shoot.

Thank You, Thank You, Thank You... :dankk2:

I've been hoping for someone to post a link to the source footage taken with this camera.

Not a problem. I've posted a few more in the folder: http://defactoweb.org/video/

All of the files in that folder are .mts from the HCM40... I took some outdoor footage this morning of my g/f (before she had a chance to put her face on... probably would kill me if she knew I was posting these videos on the 'net :) ).

These are 720p files and the settings are on auto. I play with the focus ring a little, but that's about it!
