View Full Version : PayPal - when am I safe?

I am trying to make sure I am safe before I ship out some gear. I was going to do it as soon as the money was deposited into my PayPal, but the wife is worried about shipping out the stuff before the money in in out bank account.
Can the money be taken back? Are there any scenarios I should worry about?
Better be extra safe than sorry. Thank you.

This is the off topic section. Also, in the marketplace section people mostly use PayPal to sell and purchase gear. I am was hoping someone might know because the Paypal help page isn't very clear.

This is a timely question. I just almost got scammed. In essence, never EVER EVER ship before you have the dough in your account. Period. Read THIS. (http://www.dvxuser.com/V6/showthread.php?t=183199)

And when you do ship, pay for a Proof of Mailing Receipt. It may also be beneficial to allow the clerk (or manager) to see what you are shipping. That person could later serve as a witness should the recipient claim he received a rock instead of the gear.

I imagine you just sold a large ticket item. That moneys is currently deposited in your money market account on Paypal. Transfer that money into your BANK ACCOUNT and that will take 3-5 business days. Once that money is securely in your bank account, ship the item if you want to feel 'extra safe' the truth however is, ONCE the money is in your Paypal money account, the money is THERE.
No doubt, no question. I sold a $5k item once and it was done on their credit card, no e-check involved and the money was instantly in my Paypal money market account.
I did however do a bill of sale because the customer was in house, but once you transfer that money over into your bank account, it's safe as safe can be.

I just though of something. What if I just use the money right from the paypal account? That could be faster. Though not everyone accepts PayPal i am sure.
