.. Hello. I'm concerned as a UK buyer, that the HMC41E is looking like over 2k in UKP whereas in the US it's 2k in USD. We're really losing out. :(
Being as most of my work is in web, wouldn't it be fine for me to get a US one, and say shoot in 24p anyway?
Any thoughts?
Cheers

As lolg as you don't need to show any footage on UK TVs you should be fine.

And you factor in any 50hz/60hz lighting issues, meaning that you're going to want to carefully watch your shutter speed to avoid the scrolling bands that can affect a CMOS camcorder under the other country's lighting.
Plus you won't have any warranty coverage.

Why so much difference in price for the same camera ? tv standards ?
US HMC40 $1800-$1900 + tax = £1150 +tax
UK HMC41 £1750 + tax = $ 2829 + tax
I have owned other cameras from panasonic eg dvx100 etc, but this amount of difference puts me off purchasing Panasonic.
Panasonic UK should adjust pricing.

Actually, that's not really a huge problem. Shooting 24p, you would simply approach it much like converting movies (film) for PAL broadcast - simply speed up the framerate to 25fps (4% faster) and adjust the pitch of the audio accordingly (pretty easy to do really).

The other way to do it, is to encode interlaced (which would happen anyway for broadcast at 1080i50) simply duplicating a single field every 12th frame pulldown style (no need for adjusting audio pitch).
