Maybe now the Red heads can compare apples to apples and leave the 7D alone, just a thought :)

Not the prettiest that's for sure...

They remind me of the traps in Ghostbusters... :D

The arri digicams have never really been talked about on this board, weird.

Definitely reminiscent of the ghost traps. I think they look nice though. I like a camera that looks like a piece of gear and not a toy.

Any idea how much these things will cost? -- EDIT: nevermind, I found it in the links.

The product line-up will cost between €50k and €130k with the entry level model utilising a 16:9 sensor and an electronic viewfinder while a more fully-featured version will have a 4:3 sensor and optical viewfinder.

The cameras will shoot 1-60 fps and provide 2k resolution. They are expected to compete with the Sony F900 and Panasonic Varicam 3700.

Basically way out of my price range.

Not just here but not that much at Reduser either. Which is odd to me because certain Red guys seem to love to trash the sh!t out of the 5D and 7D but don't want to post up against who their real competition is... am I wrong about this, some one let me know please. Otherwise I'm gonna assume it's just a case of insecure schoolyard bullying, picking on the little guys, customer wise and gear wise.

Form following function, as it should be:)

I think the exact opposite. In the same way that this is the best looking vehicle out there:

I am sure Erik Olson of Overland films will back me up here. Hes a landrover nut.

Agreed, but these things look like they would be awkward to use...boxes with lenses...

Much like the RED or the hvx200.

All cameras have been boxes since day one. The reason I like the vdslrs is that they scrutinize the form factor that's become tradition over the years. It's fun.

These cams look serious though. Not pretty. The users are after muscle in this case.

800 ISO wow. Secret stuff eh?

I like so far. Way out of the price range. Good window shopping.

Cheers all :)

No sign of the new cameras at IBC. All they had was a sensor in a box with a lens on the front, filming a model car. He said it was too secret to show yet, and all they could display was this sensor technology demo. Was a bit annoyed since they made such a stink about releaseing it for IBC, but oh well. The arriscan machine was cool.

Could be because AFAIK, the only ARRI digital cinema cams were the D20 and D21's. Not sure those were ever available for purchase.

After using a RED quite a bit for the past year, it's hard to imagine that these will be significantly better.

Definitely not for the price!!!!

:-) I just think you get to a point of diminishing returns. 2K is about as much as the human eye can see. It's great to shoot on a 35 MM sensor both for the DOF and the ability to significantly crop the image. But you don't really need more res. Lets talk latitude and post production. That's what matters more to me.

I'm glad that ARRI is pulling these out (and cheaper than I would have expected), because it will continue to drive workflow solutions. I'm sure it validates digital cinema in some circles.

can someone pm me with a link when the specs and arri dynamic range comparison thing gets more cameras tested?

How can anyone use something that has only one visible logo on it. Last time I counted I got at least 16 logos on the least expensive camera system, thank god we can design at least four logos per handle nowadays...

:P

I know, I didn't even know they existed until a couple of weeks ago. I saw the Bank Job, thought it was a really crisp image, went looking online, and discovered the D-20.

Now I want one.

And Jim, isn't the human eye something like several hundred k depending on how you measure?

EDIT: Is there anyway we could see how this holds up against a 7D on a Res chart? :D:D:D
