I'm thinking of making the leap from my XH-A1 to a HPX170. The XH-A1's a great camera, but I've started to out grow it. I'd like to go tapeless, and play with the over/undercranking and timelapse features that's only possible with a tapeless workflow.

My question is, when you shoot a slomo 48fps clip, can you simply place that clip on a standard 29.97 Premiere timeline without any conversion? Will it just play back in slomo?

Conversely, will a 12fps clip, play fastmo on a standard timeline?

Thanks.

Anything I'd notice going from the HDV XH-A1 to the DVCPROHD HPX170, shooting-wise? I'd like to take advantage of the $500 rebate offered this month. The P2 cards, and their price, scare me a little, but that's just cold feet, I think.

1) yes.
2) yes.

Assuming, of course, that by a "standard 29.97 timeline" you're talking about 29.97p, or standard-def 480/29.97.

As for P2 card costs, remember you get one free in the box.

Thanks for the feedback. I was actually thinking of a regular 29.97 720 timeline. I'm much closer to getting the camera. Just have to open my wallet...

Something that I noticed was it's sensor size. Is it really 960x720? Is that adequate for a full, high-quality 1080 scene? My XH-A1's sensor was at least 1440x1080.

What's the HVX200's sensor size?

There are three chips, each at 960x540, using a spatial offset technique to up the res to 1440x810.
