Of course the simple option is to use a small LCD mount on the front cold shoe but what do you do if you need to put a camera light on that point.

I thought some type of rubber grip mount on the rear of the handle could work. Tonight I thought I could try a magic arm with a mount. It seems to work just fine but it would be nice to get the bulk of the mount down for weight (see images below). Does anyone know of something like a small magic arm clamp with either a cold shoe mount, or a sprigot or the like.

Thanks for the pictures, Guy, nice setup, and it makes a lot of sense. Here's my current rig...

I'm using the shoe, currently. There is an extender plate for shoes sold by Markertek that would allow several devices to mount at the same time... though it might create too much strain on the mounting point... Here's the link...

Or this, from Nebtek...

I'm using the SWIT battery... which has a built in D-TAP and will power both the camera and NanoFlash for hours. I left the Nano on accidentally overnight, and in it's low power mode (switches to standby when no HD-SDI present) didn't even drop the battery a single bar.

Key to the setup are the two custom cables, which Convergent can special order build for you. A BNC to BNC and Nano power cable to D-TAP. Both are assembled to size and keep the camera organized and the layout clean.

Finally, this is the ball adapter I'm using. From Nebtek as well...

I've got one of those, but it doesn't have any threads in the shoe mount positioning so I'd have to get a LCD shoe mount in first.

I'm also thinging that it will be quite front heavy with both the nanoFlash and a camera light up front, but my contraption is too back heavy hence why I'd like to find a small version of my contracption...

Sort of like an upside down cold shoe mount for a shotgun mic, but solid and the rubber grip goes on the handel leaving a cold shoe mount on the rear.

I am not sure if this one helps but take a look:

Any ideas on whether something like this would be doable for mounting the Nanoflash - the button access might be restricted but it would certainly help in reducing clutter at the top of the EX1 : http://quickreleasepro.com/qrpro2model.html

Short cables connecting to SDI and a Swit battery could be constructed if mounted on the rear of the platform.

I don't have a Nanoflash but am considering it and looking for alternative ways to mount it other than on the top of the camera. Perhaps ready access to the buttons is critical or looking at the screen but this is just a thought.

What's the bit rate of the HDSDI output on the EX1?

Do you have posted video somewhere?

Thanks you.

The bit-rate of the HD-SDI output on the EX1 is approx 1.5 Gbps (total) and about 1.25Gbps effective (taking out the horizontal and vertical balanking).

There is some test footage on our website, useful for checking NLE compatibility. We hope to have some beauty shots loaded in the coming weeks.

I believe the HD-SDI output is uncompressed 10bit 4:2:2, the bit rate would depend on the video format and frame rate selected.

Very cool! LOVE the size!

How much 1080p 24fps footage do you get on a 32GB CF?

Hey Guy,

What Rode Mic do you have that is mounted to your camera?

Judging by the color I'd say the Rode NTG-3.

How do you like that mic Guy?

Yes, its a NTG3. It is very new too me so I am still learning its characteristics. Hardily had a chance to use it much yet.
