I am not so keen on the Panny 170 as it is purely solid state, and I can't afford to buy 2 x 64gb Cards at £1500 each! For a long location shoot, in the middle of the forest, I don't want to be worrying about transferring footage and emptying cards. That means I need my laptop and an ext hard drive on my always. And direct hard drive transfer requires a powered hard drive (otherwise that would be fine).

So i will go with tape, and p2 options with the HVX.

My question is: In 2/3 years when P2 prices come down, will a 64gb card be compatible with the HVX202?

Any ideas?

Thanks

The 64GB card is already compatible with the HVX202. And they don't cost £1500 each, you can get the "E" series 64GB card at CreativeVideo.co.uk for £640 +VAT.

Thanks Barry

Can you answer me, is the HVX202 basically the 200a/201?

Maybe I need slapping and someone to talk me round, but I don't think its time to go full solid state yet. I know the 170 is marginally better technically, but the casual viewer won't know the difference. I will be using a SGBlade on it most of the time, so lens is not an issue.

I think in 3 years maybe, cards will be much cheaper. But if I can get a 202 for £2999, and the cheapest 170 I found was £3200, thats still another £1500 for 2 x 64gb cards.

For location shoots, I don't want to stop and download footage when I'll be needed every minute of daylight to scrabble for shots. I can just slap another tape in and keep going!

Am I being crazy?
