I'm from cinema5d forum, but since threads like this would most likely be deleted there, I'm going to ask here if 7D/5D/etc users would be interested in this :)

I started to work on my "ultimate DSLR baseplate" because there was no baseplate that had all the features I wanted; able to lock both DSLR and tripod (1/4-20) to the same baseplate, small, professional looking and of course, low price. It will be made for standard 15mm rods, will have similar locking system to Redrock's DSLR baseplate and it will be professionally produced from high quality aluminium.

The price would be around half what Redrock's DSLR baseplate costs.

It's not cheap to order this kind of product from professional CNC machine shops and one unit would cost around the same to produce as Redrock's baseplate. But if I make larger order, the price will go down a lot and I would be able to sell these for the price I mentioned. That's why I'm asking if people would be interested in this. No point to make large order if I can't then sell the rest :P The drawings are already done and I'm choosing the right machinery shop now. Still waiting from few shops to give their take on this. This is not "preorder list" or anything, just to give me idea if someone would buy one.

Anyway, if people aren't interested I will still order my own and post pictures here for your pleasure :)

I'm also going to make at least top handle and aluminium rods after this that will have the same high quality and professionalism but still low price. But I will start working on those after I get my baseplate to my hands first.

If it's half the price AND good quality I would certainly buy one. Put me down on the list!!!

The quality is going to be as good as the products from "big guys". The same shop that is first on my list atm makes products for professional motorcycle teams. The drawings took around 14 evenings to get it just right. You'll see the quality and make your observation when I post images from the "prototype" :)

I received a message that the baseplate is ready and I will most likely get it on monday. The anodization will be done in different place and I want it to be done before I will post any pictures, so I think I should have pictures (and price) up in mid next week.

I'm also doing another product atm that should be ready next week too. It will be similar to IDC's U-Boat Commander II, but it will be more compact in sideways, it will have a little bit more stylish look and all screws will be thumbscrews (expect the 1/4-20 that goes to the camera). It will also have few other interesting updates. The price will be less than 200$ if I start selling it. If I can't sell for less than 200$, I'm not gonna sell it at all. It's made especially for 5D and 7D, but will work with other dslr's too. I'm also going to get some nice rods next week too.

I will keep you informed.

Wow, that sounds great Isle. I know this might be too soon to ask, but when do you think you'd be able to order the final machining job and send out finished baseplates to people that sign up? I mean, is it something like within the next two weeks, or much further out that that?

Regards,

Dimitri

Greetings from Estonia!
What is the target price? And will it ba a basic one piece 15mm rod paseplate or something more complicated than that.

I've got a $85 base plate (http://www.exco.it/catalogo/ftpSpace/icone_big/RS1580S-SPE.jpg) (the middle part there) from Cavision and other than a stuck fixing screw it's quite OK

Hi guys.

Paprochy, I'm doing that other product I was talking about earlier now. It will take few days to finish the drawings, I will then send both products to the anodizing shop at the same time to get anodizing price lower. After I get them back, I will post images here and make some intensive testing. Then I will make larger order for both products from the CNC shop. I think it will take 1 to 2 weeks from the day I post images here that the final product is ready to be sent.

Hello Toenis, I said in the first post that my target is half the price what Redrocks DSLR baseplate costs. You will see how it looks... ;)
