Okay, so I realise that this is probably a very basic question... but I've been looking for hours for a straight forward answer and I can't find it...

Editing the AVCHD footage from the GH1 in premiere... am I correct in the assumption that I need to convert this to a different format? I'm getting that the best thing to do would be to convert it to an uncompressed format. AVI?

What software do I use for this?

and what about adding effects and cc in AE? I obviously don't want degradation... so what do I do?

All this codec stuff makes my brain hurt... but I'm trying to learn.

Thanks.

Adobe creative suite comes with Adobe Media converter, you could use that.

If you have CS4 -- no need to convert 720p 60 to edit in Premiere (4.1). Just drop it into a 24p timeline.

As far as color correction, I'm about to try it today using AE via dynamic linking from Premiere to AE. Why not just do this in Premiere? Fear of degradation. Have downloaded the Magic Bullet Colorista plug-in for AE. They say this works in 32 bit while doing its magic.
