I can't tell. You just have to watch. Yes I was toying with making a film but have been in a financial crunch and I thought my wife would kill me and my kids would starve! Then I realized I have this amazing group of people I work with who are mostly poor and all of them are die hard film makers who will work for food. I just so happen to know how to make Po-sole, so I have the ability to feed them. But I was still fighting it because of my busy schedule. Then out of the blue this story hit me, I wrote it down and it was 6 pages long. I thought it must be destiny so here I am!

suddenly it attacked! He would have parished last night had it not been for his ninja moves. As the sprinkler shot out in one continuous stream. The sprinkler gave no mercy. Matt the AD pulled a matrix move right as the stream was about to connect with his face. Trained as a ninja, he knew he only had seconds to counter. In the shadows his answer came. There was only one thought on his mind. Save them. Save them all. He sprinted to the trashcan in the shadows and slammed it down on the sprinklers head causing it to gush "sprinkler blood". At last, they were safe. The lights will shine again another day.

THE END.

It is one of the Daylight balanced Home built Kinos my Dad, Gary, made. We ended up with about 6 of them and we used them to light almost all of Stricken. Since Shane let us shoot on his camera for Stricken we lent him our lights. It is all about sharing the love...:lipsrseal

Cool Matt, I hear you.
Speaking of which, do you have any plans for those DIY lights or photos
of the making of them? ;-)

Matt Sconce
10-09-2009, 03:56 PM
My dad may. I will check with him. They worked extremely well and I believe you can make one for 60 bucks.

sfoster
10-09-2009, 06:41 PM
Gary said it was a standard light with an electronic ballast, and daylight bulbs. He painted the back flat black and built mounts for the stands he made. It's not too hard to do. Check out THIS SITE (http://www.ryanewalters.com/page2/files/9d8b002262ac7b134c36e941ddd610ee-38.html) they explain how you can do the same thing. OK, NOW. . . back to my film!

JK, I'm a hardcore DIY guy too and if gary hadn't built those, I probably would have, and I still plan too because I want to make a couple upgrades to his, like external switches to turn off individual bulbs to control amount of light, and 8 bulbs instead of 4!

Well editing is going great! I've had to figure out my way around a few bumps in the road, but so far it's looking phenomenal I should have a rough cut by Wednesday, sent off for scoring by Thursday, and hopefully finish the final in the next two weeks! I have to shoot a pickup shot tomorrow night, and one final shot, This next weekend!!! (Yes, I'll be using a placeholder for the final shot for scoring, but I know exactly what the shot is, so it will match perfectly) WOOHOO I didn't even think I would finish getting it shot with all the problems I ran into with scheduling, but now it is pretty much in the can, and soon it will be uploading! Extra Thanks to my awesome cast and crew for pulling the late night! Hopefully you guys like it!

Thanks for the Link Shane. I get it now. I have some of those exact diamond plate shop lights from my last films practicals. Never though about using them for lighting the set. I thought you guys were talking about something else.
Gracias!

Yep, you can use any fixture that will hold a high CRI color balanced bulb. (Kino bulbs CRI is rated at 95 if you have a color meter, you can check what kind of color output you get from the light) You can even buy Kino bulbs that will fit in a standard fixture. The trick is making sure that you have a good electronic ballast so there is no flicker. You can go to coollights.biz (http://www.coollights.biz/parts-and-diy-c-24.html) under DIY, they have an amazing 150W ballast, however it is a bit pricey! If you do some searching, you can find a cheap ballast that will do fine!. coollights also have a great reflector kit for putting behind the bulbs for increased output! They are pretty cheap for the reflectors!

We have a set of DIY kinos similar to that and love 'em. Didn't use them on The Tell, but they get a workout on a number of other projects.

Had a photographer in studio recently for an interview and he loved them, too.
