I was wondering whether getting some Class 6 sdhc with a cf adapter (like the cr-7000) is a good idea when shooting 1080p? Its relatively inexpensive compared to CF, but will it sustain the bitrates required by the 7d?

Bump. I bought several 16GB SDHC Cards for the D90 that I would sure like to migrate to the 7D...

Nobody has ever tried this? Not even on a 5d (preferably class 6...i know there was a test around on the cr7000, but it was on a class 4 sdhc)?

it would be nice, as i use sdhc cards in my hmc150.

Someone with a 5D should take the plunge! :)

Actually most SD-CF adapters are pretty slow, I've read somewhere it's a maximum write rate of 3-4MB and read rate is about 5-6MB. Can't remember where exactly.
I was about to take the plunge too since I already have 2x Panasonic 16GB SDHC class 6.

Bad news from engadget:

"...inside of Canon's ultra-quick 5D Mark II (http://www.engadget.com/tag/5dmarkii). Sure, it won't capture 1080p video, but it seems to handle bursting reasonable well in a pinch."

But that was done using a class 4 card, not class 6 or higher

So there's still hope!! Pretty please with Aspartame on it...

Unfortunately, even class 6 cards aren't that fast compared with a good compact flash card. However, if you have microSD cards, you might be interested in RAID'ing them together in one of these:

Not sure if it has been released or will be in the future. However, to illustrate the speed disparity between the two card formats, check out these links:
CF Cards:

SDHC Cards:

Also, a great resource to see benchmarks of specific memory cards in actual cameras is right here:

Hope that helps. It would seem that quite a few good SDHC cards could theoretically satisfy the ~45mbps requirement for the codec, but I'm not sure if you'll get sustained throughput that actually matches those numbers.

Actually microsd in raid configuration would be great! Especially the fact that I have an 8gb class 6 ready
