if the 7d records 25p or even 24p, i see no reason why to buy the much expensive euro version. but you will be taxed tremendously if you import it. you know what, just have a holiday at the other side of the pond and buy it there or just ask your american friend to send it to you in the uk as a gift :)

I feel your pain! We get screwed down in Australia too! For example, the GH1 was $3300 when it first came out. It only recently started dropping now. Our dollar buys 0.84USD, but I bet the 7D will sell for something ridiculous like $2800AUD - $3000AUD when it comes out here...and I only want the body too...they'll prob sell that for something like $2500AUD...

European prices sucks. Taxes, taxes, taxes. Somebody has counted that people in Poland are spending more than 60% of their earnings for taxes :O In Taiwan the price for GH-1 is 40% lower than back home...

From Philip Bloom via twitter:
UK list price will be around £1399 IGNORE one currently listed
Doesn't entirely fix the situation, but should definitely help.

I spoke to Canon directly today and the price being listed by retailers in UK is way over the list price. Hopefully it will drop closer to release.

Its $3000 for the body here in Australia and $4000 for the twin lens kit. I think out of everyone, we're getting screwed the most.

You should come to Poland and see how the public hospitals look like :(

I'm not surprised with this one. Shipping a camera to the end of the world costs more :D

Same in Germany 1600 Euros(!)
If I would buy in the US, I have to pay 35% Tax/Custom .
And yeah, usually we work till August just for the IRS - highest taxes and dues in the whole world.
Unless you are a big company like Mercedes Benz - than you pay almost nothing due "creative" tax tricks like sending all the profit to a "headquarter" that consists of a postbox on some tropic island.
Oh well.....
