Have been lucky enough to get one for a few weeks so stand by for a blitz of footage and tests!!!

P.S. The UK price currently out there £1699 is too steep. List should be cheaper!

Go Go Philip! I can't wait to see some tests. I've already pre-ordered the camera but the sample footage we have seen so far hasn't been too reassuring. I'm sure I'm not the only person here that is waiting for someone shoot some test footage that actually knows what he's doing. :)

"As soon as I can I will be out shooting with the camera. In the meantime here are photos I took of the camera, pimped up with Zacuto baseplate and rods, Rode stereo mic and of course the Genus Mattebox, perfect size for the 5d."
I think you had a little Freudian slip there towards the end!
Please do some tests but not with nature ,plants, bees or flowers, just with 23.976 fps and different shutter settings with some filmic takes and body movement ,lets say on tripod from chest to top of the head framing .Something non random. So we all could see is it really filmic in practice like it appears in theory, also please dont shoot with any sky in background to avoid overexposing.Thanks.

I would assume Philip would be doing the majority of his testing in the video modes, so 24p will be a definite guarantee. He is already experienced with the 5D Mark II so we can expect a direct, maybe side-by-side comparison of the video features between the two cameras. Either verbally, or visually. In my mind, that is what most people here are looking for. They want to know if they should jump ship from the 5D Mark II and pick up a new 7D. Only time will tell, but I am sure he is just as eager to get to the bottom of things as we are.

Wow Phillip all the big boys want a romp with you! You are pretty hunky with a camera in your hands :)
Seriously though, I'm glad your out there as someone the companies trust to have the talent to get the most out their product and we trust to be honest about it!!!!

Philip Bloom thrashing a 7D!? My prayers have been answered!! Haha!! :P
Philip, also, as a strapped-for-cash student who has to spend every dollar very wisely, please let us know how this stands up to the GH1, especially in regards to rolling shutter (jello), and 720P mode.
Good luck!!!!
Make sure you tear that camera apart (well, not literally) about its aliasing issues. I want to know exactly where it stands compared to the 5D in that corner.

I second that...but I wanna know where it stands in comparison to GH1 in 720P...

or against the EX-1 and 3.

I think the two big things to know are:
1) how's the jello, vs. the GH1?
2) how's the sensitivity/noise performance, vs. the 5D Mark II?

Yes and also 3) what's up with the 720p?
There are really bad 720p clips with bad aliasing that's scaring some people, myself included.

Phillip! Lovely to see the camera in good hands!
What I'd like to see is a well-exposed sunlight portrait shot - I've been feeling (from the early footage) that the color detail looks a wee-bit 'thin' compared to our beloved 5d...
I'd really like to see a nice natural light portrait to see how the camera responds to skin tone color detail - the more the better in my book...

While I would have loved HD HDMI out, I was already prepared for it not to be there. Glad to hear the jello seems to be a little less than the 5D (which is already very manageable IMO)

Yes, I too would like to know how this camera's Jello factor compares to the GH1 and the Red One!!

I would say jello is a tad better than 5d mk2. around the gh1 level.
Not quite as sensitive as 5dmkii but close, slightly noisier due to smaller chip

I have just shot completely in 720p mode so we shall see!

Badass dude, thank you! Please continue to post your candid stuff too, maybe it's the voyeur in me but I really dig that type of thing. Also I think it's sometimes a more fair assessment of the cameras base line properties.

philip, could you possibly do a hunter style multi speed whip pan test of your backyard with the different frame rates? and compare it to the 5d/ex3/what ever else you've got?
pretty please :)

That short really looks fantastic. Clearly the knife-edge DOF is still available for those who compose with it. I'm glad I waited
