Hi everybody,
we're looking for a sound stage, a loft, abandoned factory or any other bigger place were we can control the light. We have very little money so the cheaper the better.

And even if you don't know of any place like this, is there some kind of institution in L.A. that supports creative projects with advice and free locations?

Thanks

Jan

Try local location companies. Ask them what's cheap.

If you have the time, tool around downtown and check out the various industrial spaces available, there. Many are already repped and they'll just direct you to the company they deal through, but you very well may find an owner willing to grant you access for a small fee.

You can find freebies...but usually you need to have a relationship with the property owner/manager, or with someone who has that connection...

I know. The best thing is to ask friends and family. So far no luck though.

Maybe Craigslist - find model lofts or industrial space between leases and make an offer for its use. You'll probably need insurance, though.

I don't know how low your budget is, but you can often strike a deal at a studio in really off times. You might call the Silver Dream Factor, a studio in Laguna Niguel (OC). It won't be free, but if you talk to Roland, he may have a day, evening or weekend with nothing on schedule and give you deal.

The nice thing there is they have standing sets. For example, a police station, medical clinic, etc. It's nice to shoot and not have to build sets. Roland is a good guy.
