The 7D seems to be the camera I have finally been waiting to buy, & this is the best deal I could find out there.
I just pre-orderd this from TigerDirect and got 20% off. How: If you order through bing.com (just search for TigerDirect on bing and click on the bing money thing in the search result and microsoft will issue the money back within 60 days), they are offering 15% off. Then if you pay with Discover Card, you get an extra 5% off as they are a linked retailer with discover.

This works with anything on TD, not just the 7D, but its what I was interested in.

Figured if worse comes to worse, I could hawk this think for at least what I paid for it if not more; or just return it.

What does anyone think about the kit lens bundled with it: (Canon EF 28-135MM F/3.5-5.6 IS USM Lens)?

I'm in. Ordered a 7D, claims that I'll get $255 cash back.

Oh, as far as the lens, they're only valuing it at $200, so I'm not expecting much. It's way slow, it's basically as slow as the GH1's lens, which is slow slow slow. Most kit lenses are low quality; the GH1's is quite an exception, so for a $200 valuation I don't think it'll be worth much for the 28-135. And 28 is very long for the widest angle on an APS-sized camera. But if you don't have any other Canon glass, it's hard to go too far wrong with $200.

I'm only seeing 5% cashback through Tiger?

How does this work as far as billing? They'll let me know when in stock and THEN charge me? or.. when they get them in stock, they'll just automatically charge me and ship it out??

Any idea's?

Read his instruction carefully. You have to go through BING.com, then click on the "bing cashback" button to enter the tiger direct website.

It's weird that it's being listed as 28-135, even on Amazon. I'm almost positive it's one of the new lenses they announced the 18-135

EDIT: Crap it does look like it's 28-135, that's whack! I would dodge that $200 bullet. Save up for the new Tamron 17-50mm F2.8

It's already down to 15% through Tiger Direct. When Microsoft first started doing this I would constantly check the percentage for Ebay. Sometimes it would be 30% off. This is how I bought my original 5D and a few lenses. It used to be a maximum of $200 off, but I just read the terms and I don't see the $200 limit anymore.

1. In your browser, type in "bing.com" to come to microsoft's new search engine.

2. In the search box on bing.com> type in "Tiger Direct">press enter.

3. The first search result that pops up reads "tiger direct official site", and next to it is a small orange symbol with the words "Bing Cashback" next to it. CLICK ON IT.

4. Search for Canon 7d.

5. Add to cart. It'll show a cashback amount of 255.00 in your cart from "Bing Cashback"

What I am doing wrong?

Go to Bing.com, then type in Tiger Direct. The very first result should be for The site, and it should say Bing cashback 15%.

Ryan beat me to it.

I don't know what you're doing wrong, but do as UKyank said, go to bing, search for "tiger direct", click on the cashback button next to its name, then type in on the tigerdirect page "canon 7d", add it to the cart, and it should show a cashback of $255.

Alright... just called Tiger Direct. Pre-orders get an authorization number from your card when you place it, but no actual money is taken out of your account.

When the item comes in, money is deducted, item automatically ships out and you receive an email with a tracking number.

Pre-orders can be cancelled at any time before it's shipped out.

I dont know if that is the FOR REAL date, or just some crazy date they made up because they have no actual timeframe from Canon, so I still placed the order, assuming I can cancel if the long delay is the case.

I can't vouch for them with cameras, but have used them a bunch for computer related stuff and haven't had any problems.

No orange symbols on step 3. Do I have to be registered on bing.com before doing all this? The 5% value I got without being registered, it asked me to register later, but still displayed 5% off.

I'm sure that's just number they through out there to be safe. Canon says they're shipping at the end of September... Tiger Direct should get a shipment in at that time. At least I'd assume so.

Even if, if you find another one sooner, you can always just cancel the pre-order.

I have the 28-135mm on my 5d and like it a lot. Not sure if I'll like it quite as much on the 7d. The 5d has such shallow DOF that I often want to shoot at a 5.6 or slower.

I should add, that for anyone trying to also get the 5% from discover; you will most likely have to call them to add that as you are technically supposed to link through the discover card site to the mercant's site (but doing so in this case wouldnt get you the bing money back), though i forgot to do that once before, and just called discover and they looked it up and saw i used the card for a qualifying store and they added the credit; its not like they know you are already getting money back from microsoft somehow.

You should consider yourself lucky even if you don't get a bing discount. Up here in Canada they are asking 2900 before sales tax to pre-order a Canon 7d with a 15-85mm lens and 2600.00 with the 18-135. And obviously no discounts in sight. 2100 just for the body alone.

Good thing I pre-ordered from amazon last night. Now all I need to do is find a better deal and grab an address from a friend living in the US so I can snag a bing discount.

I just preordered mine from tigerdirect and just like you said 15% off! My delivery date was February 2010! Seems a couple more people preordered. I wonder how many have ordered before me. Couldn't be more than 100 do you think? Anyway I can't believe it. Getting the 7D kit cheaper than the body!

Thanks so very much for this! I will end up paying $1650 for the Canon 7D kit! That is literally half of what I thought the price would be. Half the cost of a Canon A1!

I honestly am still in disbelief that it is really a camera that does all of this.

Yeah, I've received over $800 from MS even back when it was live cashback.

Just canceled my amazon order and switched to TD. I've always had good dealing with TD and I don't mind have to wait a little longer if my camera's delivery date is further back. $1446 is just too good to pass up.

I don't think this works for Canadian users. I don't see the Bing Cashback option when I search bing.com for Tiger Direct, or anything else for that matter...

Canadians always get the shaft...

Kegan

EDIT: I switched my bing.com country to the United States, searched "Tiger Direct", Bing Cashback came up next to TD.com...opened it up, searched Canon 7D = 0 results found. I guess they're out of pre-orders too! AH!

Kegan

I believe so Jester. It happened to me as well. According to galbach it seems that they are confirming each order before processing and no one's order is absolutely confirmed unless they call?

How do you do the Adorama one? When I search in bing.com, the cashback option comes up - I click on it, it opens like a bing.com store sort of and I can't seem to find the Canon 7D there at all. Lots of searching to go through.

Any advice?

It seems all of the sites previously offering the Bing cashback have pulled the offer.

09-01-2009, 05:25 PM
I had it in my cart at Tiger Direct, came back 15 minutes later to complete checkout and it had disappeared. The real question is, does this mean they've pulled as a direct result of the Bing deal, or for other reasons?

EDIT: Just got off the phone with a tigerdirect rep, who of course was entirely rude/unhelpful. He essentially told me that because I don't know the "item number," he can't give me any information whatsoever about the 7D or why it was pulled from the site. If anyone here that successfully placed an order can provide the item number, I'll give them another call and see what I can find out. Very interesting.

Ah bummer, I was trying to work out the economics of the situation by ordering in the States and let these deals slip past. Could have saved a nice couple hundred bucks. It still seems though that I'll be able to save around $175-$200 by having it shipped to a service address and driving over the border to pick it up, regardless of taxes.

What to do, what to do...

Kegan

EDIT: With NY sales tax, it looks like it'll be just about evening out to what it would cost in Canada. Think I might just have to bite the bullet and order here. Damn.

Dudes, the verification thing is only for "Some" orders depending on credit card issuers etc.. I just called and the dude was like "Wtf mate, you order is fine". He also told me they expect delivery at the end of September and shipments in early October. My January shipping date mentioned earlier was an "estimate based on order volume"

So we will see how it goes. So stoked!

You must have been one of the first to order..They started verifying after getting an insane amount of orders...and thought something was up... I payed with a verified paypal account... there were no issues they just want verification..... which I gave and my order is complete:beer:
