I have been running around shooting stuff @ 720p 60fps with a 125 shutter for slow motion. I think I have got that nailed. But lately I have been seeing time lapse stuff and I really want to learn how to achieve these effects. A good example:

http://vimeo.com/6323285

this is how the maker of that video described the process:

"The interval was determined by the exposure. So the interval was as soon as the shutter closed then opened again. I used a range of exposures ranging from a 1/4 of a second to 15 seconds"

Huh? sounds like he was talking from a "Still Camera" perspective. Can we get these types of results (or close to it) with the GH1??

UPDATE: after doing some research....And please someone corect me if i'm wrong here. Is time lapse footage like the above link just a bunch of still photographs (with different exposure lengths) together on a timeline?

Yes. Type "g1 timer" on eBay. That'll work with the GH1.

You can do a simple 2 fps per second 'timelapse' in 720 mode by setting the shutter speed to 1/2 second. Check "A Kindling Light" in my sig link - though I speeded it back mostly to real time with super long motion blurs.

I just got my intervalometer for the GH1 in the mail today! Got it on eBay. Tonight, I'll try out some timelapse footage using stills. I can't wait!

ok......so it IS indeed a bunch of Photos or "stills" edited together on a timeline.

So now im little confused about timelines. Most NLE's will want you to specify how much time you want to display a still or photo in the timeline. whats the proper lengh of time per photo? I'm thinking 1/24 of a second per photo.....thats 384 photos for a 16 second clip! is this the correct logic?

So it goes in the remote shutter socket? What's the link to it on eBay?

i bought one of those things off ebay too... hope they work! still waiting on my gh1...

daniel- i think the best way to handle stills when doing a timelapse is through Quicktime... file -> open image sequence -> select folder of images from timelapse... then you can bring that into any timeline you want, and even use zooming/panning techniques if you want to get fancy because of all your extra resolution you get from the stills....
