Hey guys,

I've got a project coming up on Saturday that will be using the 170 as part of a multicam operation. We'll be switching with a Tricaster. I'm trying to get the BNC output on the back to feed into the SD switcher and I'm having no luck at all. I've tried all the options I can think of in the AV IN/OUT menu, and still nothing. The only thing I've noticed is that when I try the SDI On/Off, there is a lot of digital noise when I turn it on, and it goes black when I turn it off.

The Component/SDI select option is on auto and is colored blue so it isn't able to be selected. Is there another menu option somewhere else I'm missing that will change that to a selectable option?

I was able to get it to work by going from the 170 with a firewire into a deck and then into the switcher from the deck. While that may work, it obviously isn't very practical.

If anyone has any ideas, I'd really appreciate it. I'm hoping it's something as simple as a menu option I'm missing. Sorry if the post is rambling, I'm in a hurry.

Thanks a lot,

Evan

You're using a standard-def switcher? You need to set SDI output to ON, and CMPNT/SDI SEL to 480i, to get a standard-def SDI signal.

I thought it was something with the CMPNT/SDI SEL, but I can't figure out how to change it, it won't let me select it. Is there another menu option that I'm not seeing that will let me change it?

Thanks a lot for the help.

Evan

Well... is the camera already set to 480i/480p recording mode? If so, you won't be able to change the CMPNT/SDI SEL option, it'll be forced to 480.

Yeah, it's already at 480i. I got it to allow me to change the CMPNT/SDI SEL option when I went to a 720 format, but that still wouldn't get the image to come through, still a lot of noise.

Any other ideas?

Well if it's at 480i and SDI OUT is set to "on", then... that's all the menu settings you need at that point. I'd suspect you might have an unterminated monitor connection or something like that.
