Hi all.

I have imported a ton of footage in FCP from footage I have shot with the EX1. My boss needs to review footage from his laptop and he is unable to see the video from the converted files I provide him. His Quicktime is fully updated. how do I get a codec that can view these files? They seem to work fine when I use Quicktime on my machine. Thanks for any insight.

use something like ProxyMill or Compressor or VisualHub and do a conversion for him.

What is the codec you're using? The answer to the problem lies there. If it was a standard quicktime codec, he'd be able to see them in QT Player. Is your boss also on a Mac? Something like VLC Media player might be the answer since it can play native XDCamEX files, so no conversion would be necessary at all.

I second PerroneFord. Send your boss a link to VLC Player.

have him download the sony software. i think if clip browser or xdcam transfer are installed, quicktime should play the clips.

beware, playing xdcam clips in quicktime shows a lot of noise that does not show up in final cut or on a tv. he may call you griping about noisy footage unless you tell him to expect it and not to worry. i tell my clients it's a quicktime glitch.
