Just wondering if the gh1 has any type of focus assist feature for manual focusing in video and also if there is anything to monitor exposure, such as zebras. I know this are usually dedicated video camera features but just wondering.

From what I've seen in testing, MF assist (10x zoom, I think) pops up for focusing help while shooting if you move the focus ring on the lens. After a few seconds, it goes back to full-frame live view.

For exposure, there is a histogram you can position anywhere on the screen you want. There's also a rough "exposure meter" at the bottom of the screen that seems to show where your exposure is in relation to what the camera feels is "properly exposed."

Oh, and do a Google search for "GH1 Manual." Download and read it. It really helps.

The manual focus is really nice. Pops to 10x zoom as soon as you touch the focus ring and then goes back to FF in a few sec after you are done.

Only catch is that the zoom is at the middle of the screen. I haven't figured out a way to make it zoom the focus in elsewhere on the screen, which would be nice as the focal point is often not centered in the frame.

What Stephenmick said for the exposure stuff.

That sounds really good but also is there a way to disable that for on the move shooting where a magnification in the image might cause problems with framing a moving subject.

Yes. However, what I would like is the ability to move the 10x point around the screen to choose where it zooms in.

For example, with the histogram, I can use the arrow keys to put the histogram whereever I want.

The 10x zoom with the focus ring can either be on or off, but when on it always zooms into the center of the frame. Usually the point of interest in a frame is not right in the middle, but off to a side.

I'd like the ability to move this around as well. For now I just have to focus and re-compose, which can lead to mis-focused shots when using a narrow dof.

Yes you can turn it off. It also doesn't come on while you're recording.

You can. Just use the arrows. For me it's quicker to just move the camera so the subject is in center, focus, then reframe, but the option is there to move the focus assist box.
