I'm filming a scene for a short and it calls for a character to wear striped pants, but the vertical lines in the pants create a strobing effect on the EX1.. are there any solutions to this?

turn detail off. if the problem persists, turn detail on but give it a negative value. make sure flicker reduction is off. if none of this works, try adjusting the focus to go a little soft...
the "problem" you are having is due to the incredibly high resolution chips picking up "too much detail" the strobing effect is called moiring. same as when shooting a focus chart. the fine lines form these little patterns.
