Ok here it goes. I have an hmc150 with letus extreme. I love the footage but I am very much leaning towards selling the letus for a gh1. I love my hmc150 and will definitely keep it but for DOF stuff, how does the image quality compare between the two. I am completely satisfied with the footage I get with the letus setup but the time it takes to get it configured and the size of the rig makes run and gun very difficult and it is not exactely a take around town camera.

I am just wondering how the quality holds up to the hmc rig(sharpness, colors, ect.). Also will footage between the two intercut well. I like the fact that I can take this cam anywhere and get random shots but I do not want the image quality to suffer.

I am already familiar with the avchd workflow so that is no problem. It seems to me that the gh1 with bigger sensor should offer a better image but I do not know enough about it so any advice or technical reasoning would be greatly appreciated.

I have 2 hvxs' and used to have a redrock. I liked what the redrock gave me but I'm more of a handheld guy. So I sold the redrock and used the money to put towards the gh1. I've done limited tests so far, but I'm really happy with what I am getting. I have laid down some shots in the same timeline with footage from both cameras and I think that with a little tweaking in post the cameras can be intercut quite well. Since the hvx and the hmc share the same sensor, I'm assuming you will find this to be the case as well. Plus you have the added advantage of having the AVCHD codec in both the cameras, so your workflow will be the same. Don't know if this helps at all....

That does help. Thank you very much for the response.

The biggest difference is going to be your FOV. A 25mm lens on a GH1 will give you a "normal" FOV, while a 50mm lens on a Letus will be a "normal" FOV. Thus if you really want shallow DOF you'll have to stick w/ an adapter.

Even so, the GH1 4/3" chips will give you a much shallower DOF than the 1/3" HMC150.

One big plus to the GH1 is that you don't have to worry about closing down your f-stop too much, which is problematic on many of the adapters.

Thanks zijital for the info.

Does anyone have any input on the image quality. Mostly I am concerned with how the image will hold up compared to letus extreme footage on my hmc150. Will the sharpness, color, noise be worse. I am thinking when played on HD tv or blue ray output as well as web.

Why don't you look around here and judge for yourself. Register as a member and you can download the file the maker uploaded for many of the films. My stuff is in my sig.
