View Full Version : GH1 720 vs HPX500 1080?

Want to produce my upcoming feature on the GH1 in 1080, but am tempted to just go with 720 to be safe.
Does anyone know if the GH1 in 720 mode compares with the HPX500 in 1080 mode?
I'm mainly interested in whether it would be comparable to HPX500 1080 footage when projected onto the big screen!!!

Go onto Vimeo and there is plenty shot with both cameras. Obviously you are seeing a compressed image online - but you can get a rough guide of the differences.
I suspect the GH1 is going to look sharper - the HPX500 was never the sharpest camera. But you will find the colour rendition and the much, much better codec on the HPX500 will be noticeable.
I personally think the 500 has one of the nicest, most organic looks out there.

How will I be able to see that the codec is "much, much better"?
