hey guys... this forum has been so valuable to me as a new learner....
I notice that my 60fps footage looks so much better when slowed down, obviously because of the higher frame rate.... Im wondering though.... I have neo scene and often convert to 24 because i love the way it looks..... is there any way of combining the two in the same sequence? I'm guessing if I ultimately render a final output in 24, the smooth slow mo will disappear wont it?
THis all started when i found my vimeo videos to be really choppy compared to some of the others I was looking at.... i read that they convert to 24 and just wonder what the best work around it to get that great slow mo look on vimeo....

How about converting the file you want to use twice, once as 60, once as 24.
Then in your editor use the 24 where you want the look and the 60 where you want the slow-mo.
Since they are from the same file you should be able to get the transitions to be pretty seamless.

wow that's a lot of rendering! ouch. it's nice to edit without transcode

What NLE do you use?? In Vegas, you can just drop the 60p file in a 24p project (either the AVCHD raw file, or a 60p file transcoded to Cineform, which will work better). Be sure to set the clip properties to "disable resample". If you don't slow the footage, Vegas will convert the 60p file to 24p by dropping frames in the exact same way as Neoscene would convert the 60p files to 24p. If you slow the footage to an exact 40% (80% also works, but not as well as 40%) you will get perfect fluid motion slomo. To disable resample for several clips select all video clips in the timeline and go to Edit/Switches/Disable Resample.

Hey guys.... thanks for the great responses... unfortunately I use final cut pro 6. I wish I could use vegas for the native avchd editing!!! I use a mac for all of my music programs... video is just a hobby, but it's turning into a hobby I am loving more and more!!!!
Any ideas for 24p slow mo in FCP 6. I have a panasonic gh1 and shoot most of my stuff in 720/60.

From what I've read around here I think the same approach I suggested for Vegas could work in final cut using a 24p timeline.
