So I dumped 2 mags of footage into a folder. Meaning for the short all the .MXF files are in 2 seperate folders from 2 seperate dumps. When we log and transfer them we can only get one of those folders. My friend says this is because I only imported the contents on the folder that wont open. Is their a way to save the footage without the metadata just the .mxf contents folder?

This isn't a "p2" disaster, this is a user error problem.

So, clarify -- what do you mean you don't have the metadata, etc... did you copy the entire CONTENTS folder over, or not?

If you only copied parts of the stuff over, then of course the parts you didn't copy are gone. So if you only copied over the VIDEO folder, then that's all you'll have -- no audio, no metadata, no thumbnails.

Never ever ever ever do anything OTHER than copy over the ENTIRE CONTENTS FOLDER.

Now, with that said, pending getting your answer to exactly what you did, if all you have is the video MXF files you can use those in FCP. Just make sure you've installed the P2CMS program, and you can drag those MXF files directly to the timeline. But they won't have audio, if you don't have the audio folder.

Well I copied the contents folder but their is one other file their besides the contents folder I did NOT copy over. I was in a hurry and forgot to. I dont know what its called but I believe this is the problem. I cant explain well and deffinetly dont know the proper name but their is a folder and then a white document. I copied the folder and not the document.

Ok. Quick search with lastclip.txt and I think I found it. I apologize for not searching I didn't know what to search and I have a 24 hour deadline for a 10 minute film.

lastclip.txt doesn't matter. You should be able to ingest without it.

The editor is working off of a powerPC G5. So he cant download P2CMS. I am instructing him to import via P2CMS on an intel mac. Will this work?

p2 log will work as well if you are on a deadline and have the purchase price.

there are older versions of p2cms that work on ppc macs. if you look around you just might find it. g5 will run it. i had a version running on my powerbook g4 before i sold it.

Test... Check... Learn... Test again... Check... Then jump into a shoot, once you know how to use the equipment.

Or hire someone who knows what they are doing.

P2CMS will work fine on a power mac G5. The Panny site says it won't, but it will. Just download it (V1.4.4) and it runs and exports P2 data perfectly. I have been using it for 3 months with no problems. I have dual 2.5GHZ G5 with Tiger 4.11.
