View Full Version : GH1 Shutter Count/Actuations?

I've just bought a brand new GH1 (or so I thought). By the time I got home I realized besides having a battery that comes with the kit, there is already a used battery sitting inside the GH1 battery compartment.
I'm afraid the GH1 I got is a demo used by the store. Is there any way to find out the total number of shutter actuation (shutter count) for the camera?
[EDIT] I've done some research about existing freeware (i.e. Opanda IExif, exiftool), downloaded them, tried to retrieve exif data but found none about shutter count/actuations.
[EDIT2] I just manually reset the the NO.RESET from SETUP, the image file will reset from its counter. My other question is, did your camera start with P1000001.JPG, P1010001.JPG, or P1020001.JPG?
Please advise.

Call the store and be like WTF. Where did you order from?
I say send it back and keep the extra battery ;) When you call don't tell them the extra batt was how you found out unless they press lol.
Sort of surprised if a demo model stayed out in a store for any length of time.

The store is one of the reputable stores in Canada. I'm surprised they did this.
Is GH1 this "hot" in the States? No demo available in most of the stores?

Yes.
It doesn't even get to the stores...all the orders are nabbed up by phone the second the boxes hit the warehouse floor. Why have a floor model if you don't need to sell people on the camera lol.

Sounds like the store has checked out the camera. I think you should get some compensation for that - like a extra battery.

Don't think there's a way to tell with the Panasonic cameras, unfortunately.
If it's lightly used (less than a hundred or so actuations), the extra battery is not a bad thing. :P

Henry's are generally good folk. If you explain what happened I'd be surprised if they wouldn't do something about it. Did the packaging look like it was repacked?

The package looked good. But I did point out to the salesperson that there was a fingerprint on the LCD. He immediately cleaned it for me without a word. There were also dust residues on the soft pad around the viewfinder.
With the demo battery sitting inside the battery compartment, this is what made me positive that this is an opened box.
As to how long the camera's been used/displayed, I have no idea. This is why I'm trying to find out if I can get the total number of shutter actuations of the camera.

Let's face it, there have been plenty of people here saying they've tried the GH1 and sent it back. So there have to be plenty of not-entirely-new GH1's being resold as new.

Well, I think my box was opened before aswell. Had some finger touches on the display and the shop person showed me that the camera is working, inserted the battery and started it. But I didn't care, because it was the only camera I could find and I was really lucky and besides these minor things it really looked like new :)

I think mine may have been either a returned one or one that was opened and demonstrated. I know that it was ordered by someone else who changed his mind.
I don't really mind too much but I am worried that the battery hasn't been looked after.
My camera start with P1000001.JPG, P1000002.JPG, or P1000003.JPG
Anyways, you got an extra battery which worth about $90CAD. not a bad deal.
Did your GH1 suffer Low Light Streaks? Mine is pretty serious...

Last night when there was complete darkness in my room, I recorded my face with GH1(PAL) with light from an average flashlight falling on the face. Except light on part of face there was very little light around from this flashlight itself. The shutter speed was 1/50, the ISO 100, iris 4.0 and there is not even a single streak.

That's because you were at ISO 100, and iris 4.0
People don't really seem to get this. It's not low light that causes the streaks, it's using a high ISO in low light. The GH1 is very sensitive at high ISO...never go above 400 IMHO...unless you're in a well lit room and are just trying to squeeze out maybe another stop or 2 of deep DOF.
