Just tought I'd post a heads up:

http://www.engadget.com/2009/08/19/canon-eos-7d-image-appears-online-might-be-in-best-buy-systems/

and

http://forums.dpreview.com/forums/read.asp?forum=1032&message=32722570

Looks like it might be the 50D replacement sitting under 5D.

If this could be true with a body @ $2700, and the kit with an EF 28-135 lens @ $2900, I think it is too expensive comparing with the 5D MkII.

there's a placeholder in best buy inventory for a new canon camera. the other day it said it was the 50d with a kit lens at $3999, so you know that's not right. before the 5dm2 came out, the placeholder had a price of $9999

it's due to be announced first week in september, rumors suggest 1080p and manual controls, no info on 24p.

I wonder if its a lower spec than the 5D? I read a few conflicting opinions. IMHO its lower than the 5D as canon has the 1D, 5D, 50D, 500D in order of spec. Therefore 7D is lesser than the 5D? Engadget states a price that contradicts this though according to some blogs , placing it at similar price to the 5D.

Interesting times....

Donīt forget the rumors about a 60D:

60D Specs
14.7mp (APS-C)
More AF Points
1080p Video

A little less DoF sometimes is more...

the rumors are pretty vague some say 60D some 7D some 1.6x crop sensor some full frame but if you forget about the rumors and think about their marketing strategy it would be a bit strange for them to bring out a full frame DSLR lower priced than the MKII. I expect it will be a crop sensor camera to compete with the D300s with 1080p and manual control but whether it has 24p is anyones guess....we can only hope

Anthony, they cannot deliver 24p until the new video line or any competitor will come up with a serious threat. It is obvious.

BTW, 30p -> 24p is not an issue for narrative projects.

I've been holding off buying shake just in case it does have 24p.....rendering on a core 2 duo is an issue

I understand. Take a look on here though:

When we have people from Technicolor Hollywood asking for the workflow, there's something really changing. This camera is a revolution in course.

cool, it's great to hear it will hold up well on the big screen.

the 7D is probably the 16MP "5d" with the 1.3x factor chip of the 1DmkIV.

slower shutter rate than it too, probably around 6-7.FPS to keep it competitive.

probably a "faster" 5D for news and sports guys.

were as people who shoot copy, fashion portriat can use the slower, higer MP 5D for their lines of work....

Im still 5D all the way.... i drool over teh 21.1 MP......

7D specs have been posted. Not 1.3 crop and definitely not FF, so I'm not buying!

Yeah I was hoping for full frame as well.
Not sure if I am buying. IF it does not have 24P video either, then I probably won't buy.

doesn't make much sense, the greater the crop the less vignetting so 1.6x crop is more plausible.

The irony. I am hours from buying a GH1, selling my Nikon this aft.

The only reason I chose a GH1 over a Canon 5D is PAL.

Is this info in this thread true? Could change everything for me.

Also if it is, how and when can we know if the 5D can be firmware updated to PAL?

This is nerve wracking, and there's money involved. Man.

if the latest 7D specs are for real it will put every DSLR before it to shame.

I think the 7D if the specs hold up will be the leap that we all have been waiting for. I did not get the D90 or the 5DII because of all the workarounds, but now the 7D looks to be the answer (until Scarlet comes out).
