I am going to be shooting a short film this winter, and have been reading this forum for quite some time. Every now and again someone will be talking about how they shot with a Mini 35 Adapter..

Has anyone here worked with one and could give me some insight into them?

I am trying to prepare ahead of time, there is one location that if I am allowed to shoot in, will be very cramped, and I can't afford to be 30 feet away zoomed in all the way to get the DOF I need. I am assuming the 35mm Adapter can help me achieve very good DOF.

If anyone has comments on using it... even approx prices for rentals.. I am open to any info.. I want to get the best look possible from my camera.

A few of us here have used it. Charles Papert owns one, he would probably be the best to answer any questions, but both Jarred and I have used it as well.

Rental rates in Canada may be very different than they are here in the US... it's been a while, but I believe rental rates here are around $250 to $350 per day, plus lenses. A full package with lenses might be $400 to $500 per day. But of course Canadian prices (and exchange rates) may make that info completely useless! :)

The mini35 will give you the shallowest DOF possible on a video camera. If you're shooting 24P, it just looks amazingly filmlike.

You'll need some light though; depending on how fast the lenses are that you use with it, you'll be looking at maybe 1.5 to as much as 4 stops slower than the regular DVX.
