Hello,

Just got the GH1 - not sure where I'm going wrong.

If I record a movie in "Motion JPEG" mode it shows up a a .mov file on the card and plays just fine under Quicktime 7.6.2. Audio and video both are fine. So I know the on-camera works.

If I record a movie in AVCHD mode I get a directory with a bunch of files. Quicktime 7.6.2 cannot open any of them. Final Cut Express 4.01 cannot open any of them.

So I downloaded Neoscene. It converts the .MTS files to .MOV files.

However, the .MOV files that Neoscene converts do not have any audio. They play silently in QT 7.6.2 and in FCE 4.0.1. I've tried both the 1920x1080 and 1280x720 modes if that makes any difference.

Can someone tell me how to convert the AVCHD files properly using Neoscene? I'll be taking them into FCE. If it matters I'm on a Mac 10.5.8.

thanks much,

Steve

When you convert from Neoscene you need to install another software for audio encoding. I forgot what it was called but check Neoscene's site.

Hello,

Thanks. I looked all over the site and couldn't find anything.

I then wrote their customer service and got a quick reply which shed a little light on things.

First is that Final Cut Express DOES NOT support the third party codec of Neoscene. Final Cut Studio does.

The person who replied asked if I had installed the "Perian" software installed. I did not.

I just got home and did install this, but QT 7.6.2 still won't play any audio on the files I've converted with Neoscene.

I then remembered I had a copy of Toast 9 on my machine.

Converting with that gave great looking video, with audio that played well in QT. To boot, I could edit it in FCE, which I already have.

So, now I'm not sure I need Neoscene at all. Is it known to do a clearly better job than Roxio's Toast Program?

After a bit of time and plenty of help from the Neoscene folks we've figured out that I had a plug-in on my Mac called "Flip4Mac" that was messing up the audio with Neoscene.

Removing the Flip4Mac plug-in led to perfect audio with the Neoscene conversion.
