Just upped the firmware on the HPX301 and did a before and after few test shots. The diference in 1080i quality is massive. The noise has dropped phenomenally, and it 'seems' more light sensitve. Its difficult to show the results here (happy to mail large TIFFS) but the crawl and noise has been really hammered down.
I was then gutted to find that Panasonic CMS P2 card management doesnt work on Vista 64. I needed it to pull these two test clips off an already pretty full card. Anyone know if support is in the pipeline?
Cheers

Hi ben,
Is it somewhere visible if the firmware is already in the hpx installed. Maybe a firware number or there appear new settings in the menu to turn it off/on (maybe you can give me the path to the new setting in the menu so I can quickly see in the shop if it is already installed or not). What happens if you try to install the firmware and the FBC was already there ??? The deal in the Netherlands is that they have quit some HPX301 in store at the importer. I am planning to buy in december. I prefer to buy a cam where the FBC is already installed by the factory. So I need a quick check at the dealer without having to shoot footage if it is installed already or not.
many thanks in advance,
Cees

Hi Cees
I think one of the last menus will give you the software vers. Also if you find FBC assignable in the menus then that too suggests the second firmware.
I understand your caution (having 'bricked' a Nokia N95 with a firmware update once) but mine went smoothly and was quite an 'in camera' thing using the SD card. File was about 20Mb. Amazing difference in 1080!
