After building a Dolly we (Scott and I) have decided to look into building another rig for our productions. The car mount.

This would enable us to shoot from either side into window and from the hood at multiple angles (2 shot of driver/pass, pass only, driver only...)

The ideas being tossed around currently are using a 'soft rack' and 'tie downs'. The 'soft rack' would be the kind used for surfboards, bikes, etc. Any ideas or contribtutions to this idea would help.

you can buy bogen car mount suction cups for $30 each.. they also sell a camera mount that will attatch to the suction cup for about 20 more bucks and it allows a second pin for a cross brace.. always use tie downs as well, because if a suction cup fails you want some backup.

Something like this is pretty simple to build as well (I never trust suction cups much).

Interesting design. I'd use suctions, tie downs and a small haitian child as extra support.

I've always found small Hatian children to be too small to stay attached reliably at highway speeds, small children from the eastern bloc are far more robust, and winterised, always preferable. :D

suctions are very dependable.. and create a rock solid connection to the car that is very hard to do with normal straps.

As always, I recommend Dan Selakovich's book
