cost was less than $20 in parts.
concept same as the Fig Rig, but without the annoying curvature that makes it impossible to set the rig down on the ground.
i'm amazed by how stable this rig is. and its much lighter than a steadicam without the arm/vest support to take the weight off!
someday i'll attach focus/zoom/iris controls to the handles and maybe even extra LED lights.
the short tail piece at the back is to brace against my hip, chest or shoulder when i need a third point of contact or some rest.
i placed the vertical handles at the camera's center of balance both from front-to-back as well as bottom-to-top. unlike shoulder mounts, this positioning gives me much better balance (like the Fig Rig) and keeps the whole thing from being unbalanced and top-heavy.

lol! yeah, i at least covered part of the handles with gaffers tape. just haven't cared enough about looks to do anything more yet.
the rig is made of only 2 types of parts, pvc tubes and joints and one 1/4" bolt.
note the offset/curve of the handles coming out the sides....that was necessary to leave room for my hand to fit into the camera grip while still keeping the handles at the center balance point.
originally, i attached the vertical handles by inset screws thinking that i might want to be able to change the configuration/angle of the handles for different setups.
but then i discovered that this one configuration works pretty much all the time so i just glued it all together permanently; except for the rear brace that is. that part just slides on/off so that i can screw the camera onto the rig.
i'd love to upgrade this by figuring out how to attach a tripod quick release plate for easier switching from the pvc rig to a tripod.

averan - creative! is that your concept or did you find it somewhere?
my own idea, inspired by the Fig Rig, shoulder rigs and other diy designs.
i knew i'd use pvc because of its cheap price, light weight, strength and easy connectability.
the first version of it was built for the small Canon HG10 and was a simple T shape and the handles were tilted slightly forward of vertical.
then when i got the hmc150 i had to make the handles wider apart and introduce a kink in the T to accommodate my hand fitting into the camera grip.
brought the grip on the set of a short film i ACed on last weekend and the cam operator (hvx200) asked to try it out on a handheld chase scene. he was surprised and pleased by how well it worked, especially compared to using a shoulder mount.
i also put those short elbow joints on the tops of the handles to give me a little grip for low camera angles.
on another note...
i also experimented with putting my LP Micro on the end of my monopod and boomed it into some dark scenes for a little extra key or fill. it worked really well, especially since we weren't able to light everything because of limited equipment, time and no easy way to suspend lighting where we needed it.

averan just screw a quick release plate onto the rig with the screw you are using for the camera.thats what i did when i first made a home made rig.

but i'd like to be able to quickly release the camera with the plate and transfer to a tripod. screwing the plate onto the rig, i'd still have to then screw the camera onto the plate, and then i'd have no quick release ability.

The flap I think you are talking about is french flag - also used on a matte box setup. Its really just a big shade (best for sun) but can also block out lens flares etc.
Are you asking about my setup? Most of that info is in my signature. These 2 pics have my new design of the 'fig rig' which is a great stabilizer for the cost and weight. I also have a wireless receiver, rode ntg1 mic, jib and monopod in these shots.
After the camera comes the good tripod and a mic, then from there its what your 'needs' are for your production work.

I'll probably try the ones i posted, thinking of getting 2 sets (4 radios) need them to talk to other cameras, but most important to get photographers out of the way =)
My only concern is getting any kind of static on the cameras, or getting problems with the wireless systems we use!... I will probably pick a Zoom H4N as well to use as Audio Backup!

Prob not at a wedding... i just meant for an external audio recorder most likely for live concerts... I have a little digital recorder (with lav) and wireless lav's for weddings... Also try to xlr into the board or dj...
Vows are important, might want to re-record them separately to make sure....
saving up for a good wireless lav set... this 1 was recommended to me... http://www.bhphotovideo.com/c/product/564558-REG/Azden_325ULT_325ULT_Dual_Channel_Portable_Wireless .html

I have an Azden 500UDR and the lav and XLR-plug... Great system, always put a fresh set of batteries before a day's work (i use high mA rechargeable batteries) and i have no complaints, other than it needs 6AA for the receiver and the transmitters use one 9Volt
I have also use the 200 series and they were problematic, (but other friends have the 200 series and they work good for them)
The way i see it is, if you go with Azden don't get the entry level units, but in the higher level they got some great products
I should also mention that I'm looking to get a set of Sennheiser wireless mics (i like the size and quality of those units) The Azden 500UDR that i have is a little on the big side. A friend that owns a Sennheiser tells me that it looks like a VCR next to the camera =( but it works great!

that photo is of my rig and yes it's called the "gliders" from India. According to dvtec.tv it's a copy of their 1st gen shoulder support. I was very suprised at how well it works and is made. The shoulder bar is steel, the front bars are aluminum, and the joints are ABS. My biggest gripe is the stitching on the shoulder pad is a little rough in places, but for this price I didn't expect a Zacuto.
Nice people too- when I emailed them about a part that was sticking, instead of sending me a replacement part they sent me a brand new unit. Now I have two of them  dhanyavad cinecity!
I modified it a bit- added some velcro fasteners and changed out the blue foam grips. The most important part is actually the shock absorber (not pictured). It takes out all the jerks from your footsteps.

Thanks for the indormation, I'm gonna give a try to this "Glider" rig and a Matte Box from this dvcity.com shop. With some modifications and at this price this shoulder rig cannot be that bad i guess.

I'm looking for a shoulder mount for my HMC who accepts remote controller (varizoom one) and i really like this ones setup from the first page of this thread. is it a DIY ? if not which company produces it ? thanks a lot for the help Xxx
Based on the above post of yours, could you sent me the picture again? I just want to reconfirm.
By the way, did you get the Glider SHoulder mount from the Indian company? How is it?

Elmy,
Is that MatteBox and the shoulder support from the Indian DVCITY shop too?
