View Full Version : Securing GH1 to video tripod/rails/shoulder mount, etc.

Hey Everyone,
I was wondering what solutions people have to secure the GH1 for video work, its lack of the second hole for securing to a video tripod is annoying.
I just purchased the indirails, and indifocus 20 (just days before the DSLR models were released) but I am having trouble securing the GH1, it keeps wanting to rotate away from the gears when turned. I can imagine that this will be a problem when securing it to a variety of things (magic arms, tripod, shoulder mounts, etc). So I was wondering if anyone has a solution. My attempts have already put minor scratches on the camera so I don't want to keep experimenting too much.
Cheers

There's another thread where I was talking about the Arca-Swiss system; there's a plate for the GH1 that has flange to prevent the camera from twisting on the plate. Don't know if that'll help you though.

Yep I read the quick release thread but was hoping for something a little cheaper. I guess I can tie the lens to whatever object I am securing it too.

My tripod has ribbed rubber top on the quick release plate and the little extra pin ends up just at the edge of the body front which in conjunction keeps the GH1 firmly in place when screwed down tight. What's the surface on the Indirail mount?

Come to think of it Indirails have a added a quick release plate to their DSLR range - maybe you should order that one separately.

I can try, I have emailed the site a few times without any replies. I am on the other side of the planet so don't particularly want to call.
And that DSLR stuff appeared literally the day that I received the email from fedex that my package had shipped, which kind of sucked.

I was doing some research for some car mount footage I was shooting and ran across this product called Sorbothane. I was going to try it to absorb vibration and apply thin pieces on every camera mount and release plate I had. Perhaps it will have the added bonus of keeping the camera in place once it's tightened up as it 'absorbs' the base of the camera.

Ooh! Thanks for that. I've got a doc shoot about a guy who competes in demolition derbys, and I was planning on gaff taping 3-4 sony flip HD cameras inside the cab of the car. I was looking for something to help reduce the shock of the impact.

If you go for this stuff don't get the thin sheets I was planning for release plates etc. Just get Sorbothane insoles at any sports/shoe store and tape your cams to them. Much thicker for higher impacts. I'd love to see that footage.

It seems pretty good, pretty smooth action. Its kind of hard to get the zip cog thing onto the lens properly.
I will let you know definitively once I manage to secure the camera.
