Sony EX1 Audio Q's

Hey DVX community! I wanted to pick your brain on a few things if people have the time to respond. One question is with the audio levels on the back of the camera, my channel 1 and channel 2 level meters are slow to react. I'll go from a 5 to a 10, and instead of "instantly" going to 10, it pauses a second or two, then ramps up. Is this normal or the normal way the audio on the EX1 works?
The other part is in terms of the firmware, is it worth it to go up to v1.11 from 1.03? I know that it enables various items such as 32gb SxS cards as well as more support for 3rd party cards. Our EX1 gets into productions whenever our RED is just too much, so we aren't really looking to have it "gone" for a while (while it goes in to get the firmware updated.) But it's a notoriously slow month as well, so I figure if it's worth it nows the time. Thoughts?

The move to 1.11 also improves the audio immensely from reports read here and elsewhere. Certainly a worthwhile upgrade.

How do you find the EX1 cuts with the RED in 2K mode?

Cool! Looks like our little EX1's going shop-side then. Perrone, yes 100% the EX1 cuts wonderfully with the RED One, actually a big reason we got it (EX1). But with 2k you have to watch your aspect ratio and letterboxing with 2k 16:9; what we've found that works bang on is shooting 4kHD (3840x2160), log and transfer into FCP (or export from REDCine as 1920x1080) and cut the footage from there. But minus the DOF, they both play very nicely side by side.

And a quick add on, anyone know where to start in getting in contact with an AMERICAN based Sony Facility? It lists every country BUT america for me on the sonybiz.net site (including going in the top right corner and selecting language and location)? Thanks for your guys help!

My camera came with v 1.05 installed and did not have any of the lag issues that you describe. I installed v 1.11 myself and am happy to report that the audio is even better (no harsh limiter sound).

As I understand it, there are only two Sony facilities that work on the EX1...Los Angeles and New Jersey. Besides the audio upgrade with the firmware upgrade...the biggest reason we upgraded was to allow us to use the MxR Flash 34 Reader Card to enable us to use $45 16gb SDHC cards. An hours worth of full HD shooting for only $45!!!! No better deal than that!
